Job description

Job Summary:
Provide coordination and oversight to key ThinKom programs including internal research & development, and customer funded projects. Program management at ThinKom includes typical project management duties such as cost and schedule management, resource management, and providing status to key customer and internal stakeholders. Technical knowledge is also needed for engineering coordination, effective planning, and customer communication. Program Managers will often have more than one project at any given time.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develops technically sound project plans, schedules, and budgets to meet both customer and internal, technical and contractual requirement.
  • Identifies resource needs (this position will typically not have direct reports) from the larger engineering staff pool.
  • Manages tasks and resources to the established budget and schedule, developing and implementing corrective action and recovery plans when the project falls behind schedule or runs over budget.
  • Chairs frequent meetings, normally at least weekly, with the project team to assign tasks, review status, discuss issues, make decisions and work problem resolutions, minimizing and eliminating barriers to program success.
  • Interacts with outside suppliers to help manage requirements, schedule, and cost issues related to specific components and/or services being purchased from the particular supplier.
  • Manages the customer relationship through effective and frequent communication as the primary point of contact.
  • Creates and presents effective PowerPoint presentations for in-depth design reviews, both internally and for customer milestones.
  • Assesses, manages, and communicates project risk.
  • Communicates internally with management regarding program status and needs, identifying issues, and recommending solutions.
  • Manages and maintains scope changes whether from the customer or internally driven.
  • Identifies additional sales and up-scope opportunities based on conversations and interactions with customers.
  • Provides inputs to support new business proposals.
  • Supports Production Reviews.
  • Aids in the transition of a design from engineering to production and assists in mitigation of production issues.
  • Supports production customer related issues.
  • Other tasks as assigned from time to time.

Skills and/or Experience Needed:
  • BS in Engineering, BS/MS in Management, or equivalent experience.
  • 2 years of experience in relevant program management or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated skills in organizing and directing people and programs.
  • Interpersonal skills to constructively manage interactions and working relationships of engineering personnel.
  • Ability to multitask effectively and efficiently.
  • Ability to negotiate effectively.
  • Technically proficient in computer applications: MS Word, Project, Excel, PowerPoint.

Language Skills:
  • Requires strong interpersonal skills and presentation skills. Is able to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of management and/or customers.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively, both written and verbal, to employees of all levels and with outside customers.

Reasoning Abilities:
  • Ability to communicate calmly and deliberate manner.
  • Must have substantial reasoning and problem-solving abilities extensive planning and scheduling skills, able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Energetic and creative with strong analytical skills and a solid work ethic.
  • Must be able to make decisions and get the team working together effectively in accordance with the decision made.

Additional Skills and Experience Preferred (Not Required)
  • Familiar with engineering drawings, design tools, and Windchill PLM software.

Additional Requirements:
  • Must be eligible to obtain and hold a US DoD Security Clearance in support of US Government contracts/ subcontracts.

Physical Demands:
  • Ability to travel 10% of the time.
  • This position is primarily a sedentary office position working in a controlled, quiet office environment but requires a reasonable amount of time either at the customer or on the production floor being actively involved with employees, in resolving issues and determining corrective action plans.
  • This position uses a computer terminal to access, input, and retrieve data.
  • This position may be subject to frequent or occasional on the job interruptions that may cause a change in immediate priorities and/or work focus.
  • While performing duties of this position, employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, reach, and/or bend.
  • May occasionally be required to lift, push, or pull maximum of 50 lbs.
  • May be subjected to irregular or extended work hours.
  • Must be able to work in an environment that may be subjected to occasional loud noises, hazardous materials, chemicals, and electro-magnetic energy.

Salary Range - $130,000 - $165,000
