Job Description
The Opportunity:
The Associate Privacy Program Manager supports the continued improvement, expansion, and maturation of the Mattel's global privacy program. This role works closely with privacy attorneys and the broader legal, compliance and technology organizations to help operationalize regulatory requirements, enhance program consistency, and strengthen audit-ready compliance capabilities.
Reporting to the Head Privacy Counsel within the Law Department, this individual will contribute to ongoing efforts to evolve and standardize privacy compliance processes across the U.S. and key international jurisdictions, including the EU, UK, LATAM, and APAC. The Associate Privacy Program Manager will play an important execution-focused role, helping ensure that regulatory requirements are translated into clear workflows, tracked deliverables, and well-documented outcomes.

  • Support the continued evolution of Mattel's global privacy compliance program, adapting departmental priorities and working with available resources to ensure alignment with regulatory frameworks such as GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, and other international laws.
  • Oversee the privacy review process, including initial privacy assessment, privacy impact assessment (PIA) and data protection impact assessment (DPIA) processes, developing scalable methodologies, tools, and templates to enhance operational efficiency and risk management.
  • Own and organize data mapping work within TrustArc privacy management software, including gathering information from business stakeholders to ensure timely completion of impact assessments.
  • Track Data Protection Agreements and vendor related privacy requirements.
  • Supervise the Privacy Office teammate responsible for the privacy review intake process, task tracking, and meeting coordination.
  • Recommend and implement best practices to address identified risks and compliance gaps, balancing privacy requirements with business needs.
  • Develop and maintain privacy documentation, notices, and templates.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance standard operating procedures (SOPs) and job aids.
  • Cultivate strong partnerships with internal stakeholders and external entities, including vendors, self-regulatory bodies, and outside counsel, to advance Mattel's privacy strategy and reputation as an industry leader.

Qualifications
What We're Looking For:
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • At least 3 years of experience in privacy and data protection, with demonstrated expertise in conducting privacy reviews and interpreting and applying global privacy frameworks.
  • Proven ability to manage complex projects and processes with limited oversight.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and influencing skills, with the ability to explain privacy risk and strategy to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate challenges, develop pragmatic solutions, and adapt priorities to meet organizational objectives.
  • Business acumen with a proactive, collaborative approach and a commitment to continuous improvement.

Certifications and experience:
  • One or more IAPP certifications; CIPM a plus
  • Experience with privacy technology tools, data mapping, and compliance platforms; TrustArc a plus.
  • Experience using AI tools to build efficiencies into processes.
  • Experience integrating privacy principles into product development, marketing, and digital ecosystems.
