Job description


We’re seeking a Communications Technician with a focus on Security Alarm, Surveillance and Access Control systems. In this role, you’ll install, maintain and troubleshoot various Security Alarm, IP Surveillance, Access Control equipment as well as Layer 1 distribution and transport systems, Layer 2 transport and access, and customer premise equipment. You’ll also help restore buildings and grounds impacted during service work to ensure quality and safety.

Essential Job Functions

  • Install and maintain various technology systems focused specifically Security Alarm, Surveillance, Access Control Systems, also including DSL, FTTH, POTS, IPTV/CATV, Wireless, Small Phone Systems, Hosted PBX, Enterprise Session Border Controller, voicemail paging systems, and Network wiring.
  • Periodically provide proactive and repair based remote support for managed customer systems
  • Troubleshoot issues related to technology systems and equipment, including fault finding, inside wire and equipment problems, modem issues, digital boxes, and cabling at the premise.
  • Locate and mark fiber plant routes and perform necessary splicing and testing.
  • Keep abreast of industry developments through training sessions and staying updated on current technologies.
  • Collaborate with team members and accept direction from supervisors positively.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as: door hardware schedules, maps, blue prints, staking sheets, work orders, operating and maintenance instruction manuals.
  • Skill in analytical thinking and problem solving, identifying programming, wiring and electronic equipment issues, local and long distance service issues, resolving complex problems involving multiple vendors, and unusual customer applications.
  • Knowledge of BICSI, RUS, and NEC codes and practices.
  • Skill in operating and maintaining various testing, installation, and repair equipment.
  • Technical Degree in Communication Technology or equivalent work experience
  • Must be able to perform site surveys and installations for all wireless internet technologies

Education and Experience

Technical degree in Communications Technology or the equivalent of two years related work experience. Wireless internet installation experience beneficial.
