Title: Communications Assistant
Classification: Full-time, Exempt
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (37.5 hours/week)
Location: Office/Onsite (1200 SW Kansas Ave., Topeka, KS )
Salary Range: $45,000 - $50,000

About KFDA:

The Kansas Funeral Directors Association (KFDA) is a statewide association representing Kansas funeral homes, funeral directors, and embalmers. Our mission is to promote and support funeral professionals across Kansas.

Role Summary:

The Communications Assistant develops and publishes communications and promotional materials for the association. The ideal candidate writes well for a broad audience, has hands-on expertise with media platforms and design software, and thrives in a role that blends creativity with administrative precision. This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic self-starter who exercises sound judgment and takes pride in timely and thorough work.

Key Responsibilities:

Content & Communications

  • Write and publish content for the KFDA Journal, website, email campaigns, and social media platforms.
  • Design promotional and event materials - including fliers, programs, and branded graphics - primarily using Canva Pro.
  • Draft social media platform-appropriate captions and messaging that reflect the KFDA's brand voice.
  • Produce newsletters and support internal communications with email graphics and other materials.
  • Capture photos and short videos for promotional use.

Website & Digital Presence

  • Create, edit, and maintain the KFDA website; publish and organize content aligned with events and programming.
  • Manage and optimize the KFDA's online presence, ensuring effective user journeys and accessibility compliance.
  • Assist with KFDA app content and messaging.
  • Manage email marketing campaigns and member communications.

Publications & Events

  • Create and manage the KFDA Journal, including writing articles, securing advertising, and overseeing distribution.
  • Create event-related graphics, promotional materials, registration pages; and assist with post event follow-up.
  • Assist with Continuing Education Programs, Membership Meetings and the Annual Convention.

Administrative Support

  • Provide high-level administrative support to the Executive Director, including preparing presentations, reports, and correspondence.
  • Perform accurate data entry and assist with proofreading all association communications.
  • Help maintain accurate membership information data.
  • Perform general office duties as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, or a related field; or a combination of post secondary education and relevant administrative experience equivalent to a degree.
  • Minimum one year of full-time work experience - or an equivalent combination of experience and education - in a communications, marketing, or administrative role.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), and Canva Pro;
  • Experience with email marketing, websites, and social media.
  • Strong understanding of social media strategy and brand voice consistency.
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Effective customer service and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Develop and maintain effective and harmonious working relationships with KFDA members, vendors and partners.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt well to changing needs and maintain professional demeanor.
  • Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and auto insurance.
  • Must be a U.S. Permanent Resident or Citizen.
  • Successful completion of a background screening.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with web writing, information design, or report/document layout.
  • Experience planning events or managing social media campaigns.
  • Familiarity with QuickBooks and association management systems.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and maneuver items weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to work for extended periods at a desk.
  • Occasional evening or weekend work in conjunction with the KFDA's annual statewide convention.
