R.E. MICHEL COMPANY LLC, a leading wholesale distributor of HVACR parts, equipment and supplies, with over 300 branch locations from coast to coast, has a potential career opportunity in our corporate offices for a full time Regional Credit Manager to join our busy Credit Department.
General Summary: Reporting directly to the Director of Credit, primary responsibility is to manage the credit management and account collections activity within a specific assigned territory; manage and supports one or more Credit Associates. The RCM has an understanding of the various state and federal statutes concerning liens, bonds, sales tax exemptions, collection practices, the Equal Credit Opportunity Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, and the Robinson-Patman Act (anti-trust). The RCM also has a working understanding of a wide variety of customer organizational types, business sizes and R.E. Michel branch operations. Must demonstrate a positive, professional attitude about the company with co-workers and customers whether contact is by mail, email telephone, or in person.
Responsibilities:
  • Credit management functions to include: review new credit applications, assign credit limits and risk categories, analyze the credit worthiness and financial strength of new and existing customers using information provided by the customer and information obtained from other sources.
  • Analyze information provided by customer and other sources such as credit references, commercial credit reports from D&B and NACM, consumer credit reports, and customer financial statements.
  • Reconcile customer accounts, adjust and re-apply checks when necessary.
  • Enforce EPA regulations concerning the sale of CFC and HCFC refrigerants.
  • Provide overall direction to the Credit Associates to ensure the most effective effort is made to promptly collect outstanding receivables.
  • Collection of larger and/ or more critical accounts.
  • Coordinate collection activity with the sales reps, branch managers, and regional managers.
  • Participate and attend credit group meetings, visit customers and attend regional sales/managers meetings.
  • Maintain knowledge and understanding of current state and federal statutes, laws, regulations, and legal issues as they pertain to credit, collection activities and other job duties.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of general office practices, procedures and equipment.
  • Strong skills in customer service and handling problems tactfully and patiently.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment, with a sense of urgency; excellent time management skills.
  • Outstanding administrative, organizational, and professional verbal and writing skills, typing on a personal computer; accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent personal service skills with proven record of building effective relationships with both internal and external clients and personnel.
  • Strong analytical, evaluation & research skills. Positive innovative approach to problem solving.
  • Ability to exercise judgment and discretion.
  • Proficient with PC Skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Internet.
Preferred Education and Qualifications:
  • Associates degree or equivalent experience.
  • 5 years previous credit management experience, preferably in a lead role.
  • Construction industry experience a plus, but not required.
  • NACM professional designation is a plus, but not required.
