Job description

NFL Flag Referee

Job Summary:

As a Referee, you will play a crucial role in officiating flag football games, ensuring fair play and upholding the rules and guidelines set forth by the league. You will be responsible for monitoring game play to ensure player safety, making unbiased judgments during game situations, managing player conduct, and communicating effectively with players, coaches, and staff. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of flag football rules and regulations, excellent conflict resolution skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team setting. Referees are also expected to assist with equipment setup and cleanup on the field and must comply with uniform requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Officiate flag football games in accordance with established rules and guidelines to ensure fair play.
  • Monitor game play to uphold player safety and penalize infractions as needed.
  • Make quick and fair judgments during game situations, including fouls, out-of-bounds calls, and scoring plays.
  • Manage player conduct and address unsportsmanlike behavior in a professional manner.
  • Communicate effectively with players, coaches, and staff to provide updates and address any questions or concerns.
  • Assist with the setup and cleanup of equipment on the field as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with Referee Uniform requirements, including the proper attire and equipment.
  • Maintain certification and training through NFL Flag, staying updated on official rules and regulations.
  • Accurately record game scores and report them to your field manager
  • Participate in training and development courses throughout the year to enhance officiating skills.
  • Work tournaments and maintain availability to officiate games during evenings and weekends.
  • CPR and First Aid certification is a plus. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Certified and trained through NFL Flag or equivalent officiating program.
  • Knowledge of flag football rules and regulations.
  • Strong conflict resolution skills and the ability to handle disputes on the field effectively.
  • Prior experience officiating flag football games is preferred but not required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to make quick and accurate decisions under pressure.
  • Professional and impartial demeanor.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Must attend weekly calls or review call recordings every week when in season
  • Officiating involves considerable running, being in good physical shape is beneficial.
