Job description

The Nursing programs (BSN and soon-to-launch MSN-ETP) within the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (COPHS) at Butler University invites applications for a Department Chair. This position's start date is as early as July 2026.
The College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences is expanding programs to include a Master of Science in Nursing Program- Entry to Practice (MSN-ETP) to its newly launched Bachelor of Science in Nursing program. Both programs are a professional degree that has initial accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission. Additional accreditations will be sought from the Indiana State Board of Nursing prior to program launch, and CCNE (Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education) in Fall 2028.
This position is a full-time, 12-month, faculty appointment with administrative duties in the College. This position may be tenure track or non-tenure track, depending upon the candidate's qualifications. Academic rank will be commensurate with the candidate's level of experience and qualifications at the time of hiring, but a minimum of associate professor qualifications is required. The Department Chair will be responsible for providing leadership in faculty development, overseeing faculty performance and evaluation, and managing faculty scheduling. This includes supporting faculty in their research and scholarship endeavors, promoting opportunities for scholarly activity, and guiding faculty in the pursuit of rank advancement. The Department Chair will also ensure alignment of faculty efforts with program goals, facilitate curriculum development and improvement in coordination with the program director, and oversee the assessment and evaluation of faculty contributions to the program. The Department Chair will engage in teaching, scholarship, and service activities consistent with the typical requirements of COPHS faculty.
Two of Butler's key strategic priorities are "to create an intentionally diverse, inclusive, and equitable campus community," and to "build a culture of empowerment, engagement and accountability." We seek candidates whose research, teaching, and/or life experiences have prepared them to contribute to engagement with and inclusion of culturally diverse students, faculty, and staff.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Earned master's and doctoral degrees, at least one of which is in nursing
  • Possess a current or able to apply for an unencumbered registered nurse (RN) license in Indiana
  • At least 5 years of clinical experience in nursing
  • At least 5 years of full-time teaching experience consistent with associate professor rank
  • Established scholarly record with national dissemination of work, consistent with associate professor rank
  • Demonstrated record of leadership, collaboration, and mentorship in a nursing educational program
  • Demonstrate commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion, and a willingness to contribute to building an inclusive learning environment for an increasingly diverse student population

The College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences offers a diverse set of programs leading to Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences, Bachelor of Science in Healthcare and Business, Doctor of Pharmacy, Doctor of Medical Science, Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and Master of Physician Assistant Studies.
Butler University offers personalized liberal and professional education to students in its seven colleges (Business, Liberal Arts and Sciences, Communication, Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Education, the Arts, and Founders College). Ranked #1 in "best undergraduate teaching" and "most innovative schools" in the Midwest region by U.S. News and World Report, Butler is located just five miles from downtown Indianapolis, a cultural center of the state (https://www.visitindy.com).
