What Are Comic-Con Jobs?

Comic-Con is a comics and pop-culture event held multiple times a year in various locations around the world, with the most well known being the Comic-Con International convention in San Diego. The purpose is to improve the awareness and appreciation for comics and similar cultural art forms, and events require multiple jobs to ensure success. Managers, registration support teams, and related staff complete responsibilities related to marketing, organizing, planning, and setup. Comic-cons require all the same logistical, security, and service staff as any large conference, with added positions available for those with knowledge or skills in pop-culture, film, comics, gaming, and art.

What is Comic Con?

Comic Con is a large convention focused on comic books, pop culture, movies, television, gaming, and related entertainment. These events bring together fans, creators, celebrities, and vendors for panels, signings, cosplay contests, and exclusive previews. The most famous is San Diego Comic-Con, but similar conventions take place in many cities worldwide. Comic Con offers a unique opportunity for fans to celebrate their favorite characters and franchises, meet industry professionals, and discover new content.

What are some common responsibilities for staff members working at Comic Con events?

Staff members at Comic Con events typically handle a variety of tasks, including assisting with attendee registration, managing crowd control, coordinating with exhibitors and guests, and providing information to visitors. They often work in teams to ensure the event runs smoothly and may rotate between roles such as helping with panel sessions, monitoring lines, or supporting security efforts. Flexibility and strong communication skills are essential, as staff frequently collaborate with vendors, celebrities, and attendees in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

To thrive as a Comic Con Event Organizer, you need strong project management skills, event planning experience, and a background in logistics or hospitality. Familiarity with event management software, ticketing systems, and budgeting tools is typically required. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills help coordinate vendors, guests, and attendees effectively. These abilities ensure the event runs smoothly, delivers a memorable experience, and addresses the needs of all stakeholders.

Both are interconnected, but their roles differ: one is an event/platform, the other a participant role.

IGN Entertainment is seeking an experienced Head of Social to lead IGN Entertainment's social media strategy and operations across entertainment, gaming, and tech. This role is both managerial and hands-on, overseeing a high-performing team while shaping IGN's editorial voice across multiple platforms for IGNE and its various properties. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with a proven track record of driving engagement, revenue, and audience growth in digital media.

This person will work closely with editorial, video, branded content, and cross-functional leadership teams to shape how IGN reaches and serves fans across gaming, entertainment, technology, and pop culture. This role follows a standard full-time schedule, with an expectation to work occasional weekends, holidays, and off hours during events and occasional branded campaigns. This role will require some monthly travel for industry events. This role primarily involves computer-based work with extended periods of sitting or standing and regular use of hands and vision for tasks such as typing, with occasional field work.

  • Collaborate closely with IGN teams globally (UK, LA, NYC, and across the US) to align strategies and campaigns.
  • Partner closely with editorial, video, and branded content teams to develop and optimize content formats that drive traffic, engagement, revenue, and sponsorship opportunities.
  • Drive social media initiatives for display media, video, commerce, and referral traffic.
  • Track, analyze, and report on platform performance, referral traffic, audience trends, and revenue contribution across social channels, adjusting strategy to meet targets.
  • Work with sales and branded teams on ideation and execution of branded social campaigns.
  • Lead social support and strategy for major editorial tentpoles, live events, branded campaigns, and special initiatives.
  • Build and maintain strong platform relationships and external partnerships across the social media ecosystem.
  • Balance hands-on execution with high-level management of teams, content, traffic, budgets, and long-term strategy.
  • Serve as a key liaison across departmental leads within IGN Entertainment and Gamer Network, ensuring alignment on goals, priorities, workflows, and best practices.
  • Act as an active consultant and strategic partner across the broader Ziff Davis portfolio on social strategy, performance insights, and content innovation.
  • Help identify new opportunities in platform trends, audience behavior, creator strategies, monetization, and sponsored social formats.
  • Partner with editorial, sales, video, and marketing teams to ensure consistent messaging and impactful campaigns.
Job QualificationsThe Must-Haves
  • 5+ years of experience in social media management, digital publishing, audience development, or content strategy.

  • Proven experience leading social strategy and operations for a major media brand, entertainment company, publisher, or digital content organization.
  • Deep understanding of major social platforms including Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, X, and YouTube Shorts, including publishing best practices, audience behavior, and platform-specific content strategy.
