Job description

Job Summary: 

Performs duties to move coils of sheet steel and inspect incoming coils of steel as they are delivered.  Receives direction from Shift Supervisor.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Operate overhead crane with utmost care and safety to remove coils from truck, load onto truck, place into storage, and move out of storage to slitter.  Does not move loads over workers.
  • Conduct safety inspection of crane before operating.  Report concerns to Shift Supervisor.
  • Communicate with Slitter Operator to assure timely delivery and removal of material to prevent lost machine production time.
  • Check coil information to verify coil being delivered to the slitter coincides with slitter order requirements.
  • Inspect coils as received for width, thickness, surface condition, and edge coating.
  • Verifies information on coil card coincides with shipping tally and bill of lading.  Complete coil card with actual width, thickness, and surface finish.
  • Chain and chock coils when placing into storage.
  • Verify identity of coils being loaded onto truck match shipping tally and bill of lading.
  • Refer concerns about steel quality or equipment condition to Shift Supervisor.
  • Use micrometers, ultrasonic thickness gauge, tape measure.
  • Communicate with employees on other shifts regarding status of operations, equipment, and special assignments.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance procedures on crane.
  • Assist maintenance repairman in repair of crane
  • Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work area.
  • Various other duties as directed by the Shift Supervisor.

The incumbent is expected to understand that all employees have a shared responsibility for the quality of products and related services provided to our customers. Duties and Responsibilities are to be carried out in accordance with the PTC Quality Management System and its policies, procedures, and work instructions as applicable to the job or function being performed.           

Minimum Education and/or Experience Requirements: 

80 to 160 hours on-the-job probationary period. Passing grade on job qualification exam and satisfactory demonstration of ability to perform duties of the job. Good eye-hand coordination, good mobility.

Education: High School or equivalent

Years of Experience:  Qualified as a Material Handler and Forklift Operator.
