What is a Co Op Refinery?

A Co Op Refinery is an industrial facility operated by a cooperative organization, where crude oil is processed and refined into various petroleum products such as gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel. In Canada, the most well-known example is the Co-op Refinery Complex in Regina, Saskatchewan, owned by Federated Co-operatives Limited. These refineries play a key role in supplying fuel and energy products to member co-ops and their communities. The cooperative model means that profits and decision-making are shared among the member organizations, supporting local economies.

  • Assist with small-scale analysis, enhancements, or engineering tasks under mentor supervision
  • Use engineering and document management systems to track and file completed work
  • Build a technical and professional portfolio throughout your co-op rotations
  • Present an end-of-term summary of work and learning outcomes to supervisors and stakeholders
  • Participate in feedback sessions to support continuous learning and development

What You Bring:
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Civil, or related discipline) from an accredited university
  • Interest in hydraulics, fluid mechanics, or pipeline engineering
  • Coursework or project experience related to fluid flow, modeling, or engineering analysis
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
