Job description

Baker Botts L.L.P. is a full-service, leading international law firm recognized for our in-depth understanding of the energy and technology industries. We are looking for an outgoing and engaged business development and marketing professional who thrives in a team environment and is committed to helping others be successful to fill the role of Coordinator of our Transactional practices in our Houston offices. This Coordinator will join our high-functioning Client Development team known for their collegiality and business acumen. In this role, you will support the business development and marketing initiatives for our global Transactional practices which include Corporate, Global Projects and Tax. This is a full-time, exempt position with excellent benefits.

Essential Duties and Primary Responsibilities:

  • Prepare business development and marketing deliverables including pitch materials, formal RFP responses, brochures, thought leadership pieces, invitations, website content and other bespoke marketing materials.
  • Prepare survey/award submission responses and compile client references for publications such as Chambers, Legal 500 and Law 360.
  • Track transactional experience to leverage for various marketing and business development purposes.
  • Plan and execute client seminars and external events related to the promotion of the practices, handling all details through to post-event wrap-up.
  • Assist with the organization of speaking opportunities and conference sponsorships and act as a liaison between internal and external stakeholders around attendance and any necessary logistics.
  • Collaborate with competitive intelligence team on the production, analysis and dissemination of detailed client and industry research reports related to initiatives and client meetings.
  • Maintain, update, and monitor digital marketing channels, including the firm’s internal website, event email marketing campaigns, ensuring content is engaging, accurate, and timely.
  • Coordinate internal communications related to marketing initiatives to ensure attorneys and staff are informed, engaged, and collaborating. (ex: event announcements, internal presentations, etc.).
  • Assist with the creation and maintenance of marketing collateral libraries (e.g., presentations, bios, practice descriptions, case studies, templates), ensuring content is current, consistently formatted, and consistent with brand standards.
  • Support CRM data management and list building.
  • Collaborate with attorneys and practice leaders to identify marketing opportunities that reflect The Firm’s needs and goals.
  • Liaise with external vendors (ex: branded products, printers, event coordinators) to execute marketing projects efficiently and on budget.
  • Assist with regular reporting of ongoing transactional practice metrics and aid in budget management.
  • Support other business development initiatives and special projects as directed.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business Administration or a related field is required.
    • 1- 2 years of professional experience; relevant experience in business development/marketing for a law firm or professional services firm preferred.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to interact with lawyers comfortably.
    • Attention to detail and strong organizational and prioritization skills.
    • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with competing demands.
    • Flexibility to work occasional overtime or travel for events/conferences.
    • Must possess strong technical proficiency in software including MS Office (particularly PowerPoint, Excel and Word).
    • Experience with DataCloud, Vuture and Foundation a plus.

    Extent of Public Contact (Within and outside the Firm)

    • Extensive contact with lawyers and staff in all locations at all levels.
    • High degree of contact with the Pricing, Financial Services and Knowledge Services teams.
    • Moderate degree of contact with the Diversity and Inclusion and Professional Development teams.
    • Moderate degree of contact with clients.

    Physical Demands

    • Must be able to work at a computer for extensive periods of time.
    • Must be able to routinely lift and carry event materials and other items up to 10 pounds.
    • Must be able to function in a standard office environment.

    Working Condition and Environment

    • Work is normally performed in a typical office environment, which includes the ability to visit face-to-face and virtually with firm lawyers, staff and external contacts. 
    • Position is full-time and requires a five-day work week and standard hours as outlined in the Firm policy manual.
    • Overtime will be required on occasion including evenings and weekends, and some limited travel may be required to perform the essential functions of the job.
    • This role may be hybrid and will require a minimum of three days per week (or at least 60%) present in the office, and up to two days per week (40%) may be performed remotely.
