What is a channel manager?

Channel Managers are professionals responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with partners, distributors, or resellers that sell a company's products or services. They create strategies to expand the company's reach and maximize revenue through indirect sales channels. Their duties often include onboarding new partners, providing training, setting sales targets, and ensuring that partners align with the company's goals and standards.

What does a channel manager do?

A channel manager works with sales or marketing within a specific channel. In this career, your duties may involve overseeing sales operations and being the moderator for supplier and customer relationships in a particular territory. Your responsibilities could range from fostering relationships with potential or existing channel partners and clients, creating and implementing sales growth strategies designed to increase profitability for your channel, closing difficult sales, and working on the recruitment of new sales and marketing partners. You may also meet with partners in your sales channel and moderate discussions between your marketing team and your channel partners.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a channel manager?

To thrive as a Channel Manager, you need expertise in sales strategy, partner relationship management, and a solid understanding of channel sales models, typically supported by a degree in business or marketing. Familiarity with CRM platforms like Salesforce, partner portals, and sales analytics tools is often required. Strong negotiation, communication, and problem-solving skills set exceptional Channel Managers apart. These capabilities are vital for building effective partner networks, driving revenue growth, and ensuring seamless collaboration between an organization and its channel partners.

How does a channel manager typically collaborate with sales and marketing teams to drive partner performance?

A Channel Manager works closely with both sales and marketing teams to align strategies, develop joint campaigns, and provide partners with the resources they need to succeed. This collaboration often involves regular meetings to discuss partner feedback, analyze sales data, and coordinate promotional activities. By fostering open communication and sharing insights between internal teams and external partners, Channel Managers help ensure that all parties are working toward mutual goals and maximizing revenue opportunities.

J.P. Morgan Asset Management is committed to delivering exceptional service to our clients and business partners. Our sales and client service teams, marketing partners, and product specialists collaborate across the global JPMorgan Chase platform to bring differentiated investment insights and solutions to institutions, intermediaries, and individuals. Clients face an ever-evolving set of portfolio challenges-and we meet them with a singular focus: offering investment solutions designed to help achieve their goals in the way that's best for them.

As a Client Advisor in the Wealth Management Channel, you will be responsible for expanding J.P. Morgan Asset Management's presence across Houston, surrounding markets, and Louisiana, with a focus on Wirehouse Financial Advisors. You will lead an Integrated Client Team to deliver J.P. Morgan's investment solutions-including ETFs, mutual funds, separately managed accounts, and alternatives-while communicating market perspectives and portfolio construction insights. Success in this role requires strong relationship management, a consultative approach, and close collaboration with internal partners to drive growth and outstanding client outcomes.

Job Responsibilities

  • Build, deepen, and expand relationships with Financial Advisors, Market Directors, and Private Client Advisors across the territory.
  • Deliver consultative, goals-based investment solutions to help clients increase assets under management across ETFs, mutual funds, SMAs, and alternatives.
  • Communicate J.P. Morgan's market views and portfolio construction perspectives through established programs, insights, and thought leadership.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact-advocating for client needs and ensuring a high-quality experience.
  • Lead and coordinate the Integrated Client Team and internal partners to deliver seamless support and execute strategic initiatives.
  • Organize and lead client meetings, presentations, and events to drive engagement and outcomes.
  • Prioritize effectively, managing time and resources to ensure consistent and disciplined territory coverage.
  • Represent J.P. Morgan's values of integrity, excellence, and partnership in every interaction.
  • Travel regularly within the assigned territory to meet with clients and prospects.

Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Active Series 7 and Series 63 licenses.
  • Proven experience in client relationship management and consultative sales.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills; ability to influence and build credibility with senior stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and drive results within a team-based coverage model.
  • High level of professionalism, organization, and self-discipline.
  • Willingness to travel weekly within the assigned territory.
  • Client-first mindset with a focus on delivering tailored solutions and long-term partnerships.

Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills

  • Wholesaling experience (internal or external) strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting client relationships in an institutional, intermediary, or advisory environment.
  • Adaptability and an innovation mindset; comfort navigating change and ambiguity.
  • Strong emotional intelligence and stakeholder management skills.
