Position Summary

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a pivotal role within Islamic Relief USA, responsible for leading our finance organization towards excellence in compliance, planning, strategic insight, and grant management. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the CFO will serve as a key member of the executive team, providing leadership and coordination in the administrative, business planning, accounting, budgeting, and grant management efforts of the organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Ensure the financial health and integrity of the organization through strategic stewardship and controllership.
  • Lead treasury management, financial planning, risk management, and investment strategies.
  • Spearhead technology transformations within the finance department to improve efficiency and transparency.
  • Provide strategic financial insights and recommendations to the CEO and the board of directors.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, advising management on needed actions.
  • Enhance and implement financial and accounting systems, processes, tools, and control systems.
  • Lead budgeting, financial forecasting, and cash flow for administration, existing programs, and proposed new sites.
  • Oversee grant accounting, reporting, and compliance to ensure adherence to donor and regulatory requirements. Collaborate closely with program departments to ensure effective financial management and oversight of grant-funded projects.
  • Represent the organization to financial partners, including financial institutions, investors, foundation executives, auditors, public officials, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Competencies
  • Advanced degree in Accounting, Finance, or relevant field; CPA or similar certification highly preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in a senior financial leadership role, preferably in the non-profit, emergency relief, or development sectors.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, confidence, and executive presence – ability to motivate staff.
  • Excellent analytical, reasoning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Significant experience in or knowledge of nonprofit accounting, including sophisticated fund and grant accounting, compliance, and reporting.
  • Experience with major financial reporting systems and data analysis tools.
  • Commitment to the mission, values, and goals of Islamic Relief USA.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States.
