Description
This position is contingent upon the successful award of a government contract. Hiring and employment are subject to contract award and funding approval.
Lantana Consulting Group provides services and software for standards-based health-information exchange. We have established ourselves as a trusted leader in the industry with two decades of expertise in developing and deploying technical specifications and interoperability solutions. As a rapidly growing distributed, employee-owned company, we hire exceptional talent nationwide and offer flexible remote work arrangements. We take pride in our mission to improve public health and quality of care and to advance research.
Primary purpose:
Provides product management and public-health informatics support for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC's) National Electronic Disease Surveillance System Base System (NBS). Supports modernization, implementation, configuration, and continuous-improvement activities that enable CDC and jurisdictional partners to use NBS for disease surveillance, case investigation, public-health reporting, and interoperability. Serves as the liaison between public-health programs, end users, and technical teams. Translates operational needs, surveillance workflows, and user feedback into actionable product requirements for successful implementation and adoption of modernized capabilities.
A successful candidate will do the following:
  • Serve as Product Manager for modernization activities for case notification; support product management across other modernization workstreams
  • Collaborate with CDC staff, subject-matter experts in public health, jurisdictional partners, and technical teams to gather, analyze, and refine business and functional requirements
  • Develop epics, features, user stories, acceptance criteria, and other Agile product artifacts
  • Translate surveillance workflows and user needs into clear, implementable product requirements
  • Support product planning, roadmap development, release planning, and feature prioritization
  • Support sprint planning and feature demonstrations
  • Support user-acceptance testing, release readiness, implementation planning, and product documentation
  • Maintain, manage, and refine product backlogs to align work with priorities and objectives
  • Support the application of national public-health interoperability standards, implementation guidance, and surveillance practices during product development
  • Coordinate with public-health informaticians, epidemiologists, standards experts, and engineers to ensure modernization activities support operational public-health workflows
  • Evaluate stakeholder feedback and recommend product improvements that enhance usability and implementation
  • Coordinate with CDC programs; state, local, tribal, and territorial (STLT) public-health partners; and internal delivery teams to gather feedback and communicate product direction

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in public health, health informatics, information systems, computer science, or a related field and nine (9) years of relevant experience, or a master's degree in a relevant field and 7 (seven) years of experience
  • Experience with communicable-disease surveillance systems such as NBS or National Notifiable Diseases Surveillance System (NNDSS)
  • Experience working with CDC or STLT public-health agencies
  • Experience gathering and documenting business and functional requirements
  • Experience developing user stories, acceptance criteria, or other Agile product artifacts
  • Experience with public-health surveillance systems and a demonstrated understanding of key principles and practices of surveillance
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with technical teams, public-health professionals, and executive stakeholders
  • Ability to complete and maintain a federal-government Position of Public Trust Level 5 background investigation

Preferred qualifications:
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a distributed, team-oriented, and collaborative environment with federal partners and other federal contractors
  • Experience supporting public-health modernization or health-information exchange initiatives
  • Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) or comparable Agile certification

Additional information:
  • We are a remote organization, but we prioritize in-person collaboration during key events such as our annual company meeting.
  • We are an equal-opportunity employer. All qualified applicants for current openings will be considered for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy, gender identity, and sexual orientation), parental status, national origin, age, disability, genetic information (including family medical history), political affiliation, military service, or other non-merit based factors.
  • For this position, the candidate must reside in the United States.
