Position Summary
Ohio University Culinary Services seeks a highly motivated and experienced Business Operations Manager to support the strategic, financial, procurement, technology, and operational functions of a dynamic, multi-unit dining program. Reporting to the Director of Business Operations, this position provides leadership and oversight for business systems, procurement processes, vendor relationships, and foodservice technology platforms that support residential dining, retail dining, catering, convenience stores, food trucks, and auxiliary operations.
The Business Operations Manager serves as a key member of the Culinary Services leadership team, collaborating with department managers and university partners to ensure operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, financial stewardship, and exceptional customer service.
Primary Responsibilities
Business Operations and Financial Management
• Collaborate with the Director of Business Operations in the development, monitoring, and management of departmental operating and capital budgets.
• Analyze financial performance, purchasing trends, inventory data, and operational metrics to support sound business decisions.
• Partner with department managers to achieve revenue, expense, and operational goals established for Culinary Services.
• Develop and maintain reports, dashboards, and key performance indicators to support department objectives.
• Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiencies, reduce costs, and enhance service delivery.
Procurement and Contract Management
• Ensure compliance with Ohio University procurement policies, procedures, and applicable regulations associated with public higher education purchasing.
• Manage procurement activities including competitive quotes, requisitions, purchase orders, vendor selection, and contract administration.
• Serve as a liaison between Culinary Services, Procurement Services, Information Technology, and external vendors.
• Negotiate vendor agreements, pricing structures, service levels, and contract terms to maximize value and operational effectiveness.
• Monitor vendor performance and maintain strong supplier relationships to support departmental needs.
Foodservice Technology and Systems Management
• Provide leadership and oversight of the Culinary Services software and systems team, ensuring adherence to university policies while fostering a positive, collaborative, and customer-focused work environment.
• Support the implementation, maintenance, integration, and optimization of foodservice and business technologies including, but not limited to:
o Concur
o Transact Campus
o Transact Cloud POS
o Transact Mobile Ordering
o eAccounts
o CradlePoint
o Clover Flex
o Transact Kitchen Display System (KDS)
o FoodPro (or similar foodservice management software)
o Bobcat Buy

Leadership and Collaboration
• Lead and actively participate in cross-functional teams to identify challenges, develop solutions, and implement process improvements.
• Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Provide guidance, coaching, and professional development opportunities for assigned staff.
• Work collaboratively with university departments, students, faculty, staff, and external partners.
• Promote exceptional customer service standards throughout all business and operational functions.
Compliance and Risk Management
• Ensure departmental compliance with university policies, state regulations, audit requirements, and contractual obligations.
• Maintain accurate records related to procurement, contracts, software licensing, and financial transactions.
• Assist with internal and external audits and provide supporting documentation as required.
• Recommend and implement controls that minimize operational and financial risk.
Reporting and Analysis
• Prepare, analyze, and distribute operational, financial, procurement, and technology reports for Culinary Services leadership and university stakeholders.
• Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), sales trends, labor metrics, purchasing activity, meal plan utilization, inventory performance, and other operational data to evaluate business effectiveness.
• Conduct detailed analysis of departmental performance and identify opportunities for revenue growth, cost containment, process improvement, and operational efficiencies.
• Develop dashboards, scorecards, and management reports that support strategic planning and decision-making.
• Partner with department leaders to interpret data, assess business outcomes, and recommend data-driven solutions to operational challenges.
• Ensure the accuracy, integrity, and timely delivery of reports generated through systems including OBI, FoodPro, Transact platforms, and other university reporting tools.
• Present findings and recommendations to departmental leadership in support of budgeting, forecasting, strategic initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts.
• Utilize quantitative and qualitative data to support long-range planning, performance measurement, and departmental goal attainment.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze complex operational and financial data and translate findings into actionable recommendations for leadership.
• Advanced reporting and analytical skills with experience using business intelligence, financial reporting, and data visualization tools.
Position Profile
Oversees, plans, manages, implements and/or evaluates the operations of a college, division, or department in the areas of human resources, compliance, financial, and additional services. Identifies and establishes financial and operational systems to monitor, control, and improve efficiency and effectiveness, not limited to, processes, procedures and policies.
Level Summary
Provides professional expertise to the University community. Serves as a resource and guide to others in the department and/or university. Completes operational tasks essential for the daily functioning of the University. Additionally, contributes to larger projects or initiatives that align with department or University goals, often collaborating across teams.

May assist in mentoring or training new employees.
Fiscal Responsibilities
No budgetary responsibility. May be responsible for validating transactions.

Handles a variety of problems with some independence.

Some supervision; able to work independently on routine tasks.

Physical Requirements
This role is primarily desk-based and involves extensive use of desktop computers. Occasionally, the job may require travel to attend meetings and programs.

Requires a Bachelor's degree in a related field and 3 or more years of related professional experience, or equivalent education and experience.
