Application Analyst, Business Intelligence

Application Description
Through the collection and processing of unstructured as well as structured data, Business Intelligence (BI) tools improve productivity and enable our enterprise to make better business decisions each day. Configurable dashboards, data visualizations, reports, and metrics allow organizations to manage patient populations, analyze and benchmark clinical and operational performance, and monitor improvements for key areas of focus. BI tools such as Tableau are expected to connect and cross pollinate data from applications including Epic Systems, Microsoft SQL databases, Oracle Databases, and cloud-based solutions such as AWS, and Snowflake.

Role Description
The Business Intelligence Developer is primarily responsible for the development and maintenance of dashboards, data visualizations, reports, and metrics across applications.

Other responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

Operational maintenance of the BI platform, optimization of content delivery, and data governance for published content and supporting data models. The BI Developer will assist with metric definition creation and maintenance to ensure consistent reporting across the platform.

Essential functions:
In addition to the duties outlined in the Role Description, the Business Intelligence Manager is responsible for the following:
1) Strategic Development and Design

  • Working cross functionally with key process stakeholders, including nurses, physicians, and other clinical/administrative staff to develop dashboards, data visualizations, and reports
  • Collaborating with analysts, engineers, and business users to translate requirements into technical specifications
  • Reviewing and improving existing content and collaborating with teams to facilitate new requests
  • Documentation of defined metrics and the curation of metric definitions to be used across dashboards
  • Coordinating and assisting with the creation of a dynamic reporting inventory
  • Working with Information Technical teams to validate the technical infrastructure for Business Intelligence and Data and Analytics

2) Project Management:

  • Communicating the Business Intelligence project plan with business users and technical teams
  • Providing day-to-day tracking of team against project and build milestones
  • Accountable for ensuring benefits are reported and measured for their respective team
  • Ensuring quality of final deliverables assigned to team
  • Documenting project metrics and ensure they align with centralized definitions, providing updates where necessary
  • Participating in change control reviews and change approvals for their respective team
  • Escalating issues and potential mitigation plans to IT and Operational Project leadership

3) Project Maintenance:

  • Serving as a liaison between end-users' workflow needs, technical teams, and leadership
  • Working with leadership and end-users to ensure that products meet the enterprise's needs regarding project deliverables and timelines
  • Communicating regularly with leadership and end-users to resolve issues, conflicts, and application integrations
  • Ensuring that appropriate subject matter experts are involved in design, configuration, and testing sessions

Qualifications:

Education

  • Minimum: Bachelor's degree or two (2) years of relevant work experience
  • Education Preferred: Healthcare, Business or Information Sciences

Work Experience:

  • Minimum: Two (2) years experience in analytics, statistics, and/or data visualization
  • Minimum: Two (2) years experience in SQL and Cloud based technology with the purpose of mining and manipulating large data sets
  • Preferred: Tableau
  • Preferred: EPIC Business Intelligence Developer experience
  • Preferred: SSMS, Snowflake
  • Preferred: Experience in data engineering, data science or related field
  • Preferred: Experience working with Epic Systems and reporting tools
  • Preferred: Experience in large-scale project management
  • Superior communication and interpersonal skills, facilitation/training skills, project management capabilities, and leadership orientation
  • Strong assertiveness skills and ability to manage conflict in a variety of situations
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with multidisciplinary teams, including nurses, physicians, and other clinical/administrative staff
