Position Purpose
United Soccer League is seeking a Business Intelligence Specialist that will be responsible for finding insights in aggregate data sets that will drive revenue generation across league and club verticals and further League strategic objectives. This role will work cross-departmentally to provide strategic recommendations to optimize business operations and fan-focused engagement strategies through data analysis and consumer intelligence. The ideal candidate will have strong technical and analytical skills that drive the development of statistical models that find insights in league and club data streams and is adept at using data to tell stories that resonate with a broad audience.
Duties and Responsibilities
Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Partner with business stakeholders to define their business intelligence needs and develop custom solutions for delivering against them through intuitive information reports, dashboards, and visualizations.
  • Translate data across key revenue-driving verticals (e.g., ticketing, partnerships and consumer products) into targeted analyses, providing insights and recommendations to critical organizational stakeholders that lead to actional business decisions.
  • Work with USL HQ Club Performance Group [CPG] to measurably enhance key revenue streams for USL member clubs.
  • Collaborate with internal and external corporate partnership teams and clients to provide fan insights for partnerships outreach decks that drive revenue generation.
  • Directly inform the organization's data warehouse strategy, maintaining current data integrations and facilitating the addition of future integrations.
  • Support ad-hoc requests for data; build reports, visualizations, executive dashboards and presentations.
  • Perform quality assurance functions as they relate to reporting and data validation.
  • Contribute to organizational knowledge base by continuous documentation and process mapping, identifying opportunities for optimization.
  • Serve as an information resource to the organization on historical data and historic policies/practices.
  • Collaborate and work effectively with other departments including Club Performance Group, Partnerships, Expansion, Onboarding, Strategy, Social, and Digital to further develop reliable and meaningful reporting standards.
  • Provide technology training (working with provided reports, data analysis, proper data entry, etc.) for team members when needed.
  • Other duties/responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications
  • 1.5+ years of experience in Database Marketing, CRM, Business Intelligence or Analytics or degree in Business, Economics, Mathematics, statistics, or other quantitative fields.
  • Familiarity with Tableau or a similar data visualization platform and SQL or SQL Server Querying experience.
  • Database architecture design experience and familiarity with Amazon Redshift is preferred.
  • Working experience with R or Python is a plus.
  • Proven ability to analyze data and provide recommendations/best practices based on insights.
  • Experience with advanced MS Excel functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully work in a team and with stakeholders across an organization.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Strong commercial skills with an ability to articulate tangible ROIs/KPIs.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with team members, executives, member clubs, and external partners.
  • Ability to work independently in a multi-faceted, fast, fluid, and deadline-driven environment.
  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic a must.
  • Ability to work as business needs require which may include long days, evenings, weekends, occasional holidays, and travel if / when necessary.
  • Must have U.S. work authorization.

Work Environment
Based in Tampa, FL, USL Headquarters provides a vibrant and open working environment designed to promote collaboration, the exchange of ideas, and knowledge sharing. We believe in fostering a culture that encourages creativity, communication, and teamwork.
Currently, USL HQ operates on a hybrid work model. From Monday to Thursday, team members gather in person to harness the power of face-to-face collaboration. This not only strengthens the bonds within the team but also enhances communication and innovation. On Fridays, we transition to a remote work setup, providing our team with the flexibility to manage their tasks in an environment of their choosing.
Typical USL HQ hours are Monday - Friday 8:30am - 5:30pm ET. Evenings, weekends, occasional holidays, and travel may be necessary based on business demands.
