Position Summary Information
Primary Purpose
Under the general supervision of the Director of Building Operations, performs duties related to general building maintenance and repairs at the San Francisco Campus and Union City Dental Care Center.

EMPHASIS: General building maintenance and repair; student lab and clinic support.
Essential Functions
  • Perform general building and dental equipment maintenance and repairs as required; maintain and repair fixtures, furnishings and equipment.
  • Perform daily inspection of facility to ensure readiness for occupant use; coordinate with additional resources to complete necessary adjustments to facility; report larger issues to Director or Manager as needed.
  • Order and obtain necessary parts and materials required for the efficient operation and maintenance of the dental school according to established policies and procedures.
  • Maintain equipment and materials inventories as required.
  • Provide assistance and direction for contractors, vendors and other service personnel.
  • Assist with special projects and minor improvement projects.
  • Provide coverage for other staff members as directed.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Director or Manager, Building Operations or designee.

Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of:
  • General facility maintenance and repairs.
  • General fire, life, emergency and safety equipment and procedures.
  • Basic computer skills to include email and internet use.

Ability to:
  • Use tools associated with general building and dental equipment repairs.
  • Diagnose problems related to the dental school equipment and offer solutions. • Keep accurate
  • records and maintain inventory of replacement parts needed for all equipment.

Experience:
  • Minimum two years of experience in general building maintenance/repairs.

Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Working Conditions:
  • Position requires incumbent to drive on university business. Position is full-time, eight (8) hours per day, five (5) days per week.Shifts are from 1:00PM to 10:00PM.
  • Occupational exposure to blood borne pathogens may reasonably be anticipated; personal protective equipment will be provided to reduce or eliminate exposure to routine or limited infectious agents.
  • Position requires extensive use of personal protective equipment such as eyewear, hearing protection, gloves, etc.
  • Incumbent must be able to work varying shifts to include evenings and weekends or in the event of an emergency.

Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of:
  • Knowledge of basic Microsoft Word, Excel, and building management systems, work order software and event management system desirable.
  • Dental equipment repair helpful.

Ability to:
  • Project a professional image, demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and communicate in a collegial and professional manner with administrators, faculty, staff, students and public.
  • Utilize building management system and email to communicate and manage work.
  • Work independently and prioritize assignments to complete projects in a timely manner.
  • Accurately follow verbal and written instructions, maintain accurate records and provide clearly written and understandable reports.
  • Take initiative in time management, organize assignments and set priorities to meet multiple deadlines.
  • Work productively under pressure with minimal supervision; contribute and collaborate positively within a team environment.
  • Work effectively with multiple interruptions.
  • Demonstrate excellent attention to detail, problem solving, judgment, customer service and follow-through skills.
  • Problem solve using critical thinking and deductive reasoning.

Experience:
  • Prior experience working with mechanical equipment such as pumps, motors, and compressed air and vacuum systems.
  • Experience in an academic or professional environment desirable.

Education:
  • Trade, technical or vocational training is highly desirable.

Licenses:
  • Valid California Class C driver license desirable.

Other:
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
  • Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

Hiring Range
$25.99- $34.43 per hour. We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
