Who gets paid more, a bookkeeper or an accountant?

Accountants often have formal education and may hold certifications like CPA, which can lead to higher pay compared to bookkeepers who primarily handle routine financial record-keeping. Salary differences can vary based on experience, location, and industry.

Is AI replacing bookkeepers?

AI is automating certain bookkeeping tasks such as data entry, reconciliation, and report generation, which can increase efficiency. However, bookkeepers still play a vital role in interpreting financial data, ensuring accuracy, and providing strategic insights that AI cannot fully replicate. Job description

Why You'll Love This Role
This isn't a traditional accounting role.
We're looking for a builder - someone who loves creating smarter systems, leveraging technology and AI, and turning complex operations into simple, scalable processes. You'll partner directly with our CEO to modernize how Hangar 24 manages financial intelligence, business systems, reporting, vendor accountability, and profitability.
At Hangar 24, finance is more than producing statements after the fact. We want faster visibility into what is financially true: cash, sales, margins, labor, Prime Cost, inventory, AR/AP, brewery production costs, wholesale performance, and where the business is making or losing money.
If you get excited about automation, AI-enabled workflows, dashboards, integrations, and finding better ways to work, this role was built for you.
What You'll Spend Your Time Doing
  • Build and optimize our financial technology ecosystem, including QuickBooks Online, Ekos, Toast, MarginEdge, Paylocity, Sling, Bill.com, AI bookkeeping tools, and related business systems.
  • Leverage AI and automation to streamline finance, bookkeeping, payroll, reporting, vendor management, and operational workflows.
  • Create practical reporting and dashboards that help leaders make faster, smarter business decisions.
  • Partner with the CEO to identify margin leakage, cost-saving opportunities, pricing issues, and profitability improvements.
  • Manage relationships with outsourced bookkeeping, CPA/tax advisors, IT providers, insurance partners, payroll, banking, benefits, and software vendors.
  • Lead month-end financial processes by ensuring timely, accurate reporting from external partners.
  • Improve business processes by eliminating manual work, reducing duplicate efforts, and implementing scalable solutions.
  • Support operational leaders with financial insights, reporting, variance explanations, and performance metrics.
  • Help connect financial visibility across taproom, restaurant, brewery production, wholesale/distributor, and administrative operations.
  • Spend time in the business - taprooms, brewery, kitchen, receiving, and inventory workflows - to understand how financial data is created in the real world.

What We're Looking For
  • 7+ years of finance, operations, business systems, finance transformation, or related experience.
  • Strong understanding of margin, cash, inventory, pricing, Prime Cost, forecasting, working capital, and operational profitability.
  • Experience with QuickBooks Online and modern business software platforms.
  • Comfort working with systems such as Ekos, Toast, MarginEdge, Paylocity, Sling, Bill.com, AI bookkeeping tools, or similar platforms.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a passion for automation, clean data, and better processes.
  • Advanced Excel/Google Sheets skills and comfort working across reporting exports, spreadsheets, integrations, and system data.
  • Comfortable using AI tools to improve workflows, reporting, analysis, documentation, and operational efficiency.
  • Experience with dashboard tools, automation platforms, system integrations, or AI-enabled reporting tools is a plus.
  • Experience in hospitality, food & beverage, brewery, manufacturing, wholesale, or multi-location operations is strongly preferred.
  • Self-starter who enjoys building systems, solving problems, asking better questions, and driving continuous improvement.
Work Details
  • Full-time, exempt position.
  • Hybrid work environment with regular travel to Hangar 24 locations.
  • Comprehensive benefits package.
  • Opportunity to help shape the future of a growing, innovative craft brewery.
  • Actual compensation within this range will be based on experience, skills, and qualifications.
The Fine Print
Hangar 24 Craft Brewery is an equal opportunity employer. This role may evolve as the business grows, and additional related duties may be assigned.
