Job description

Role : BI Architect / BI Technical Lead
Location : Iselin, NJ
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the end-to-end migration of reporting solutions from Cognos to Power BI, including assessment, design, development, testing, and deployment.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand reporting requirements and translate them into scalable, modern BI solutions.
  • Perform gap analysis between Cognos and Power BI features, ensuring data integrity and functionality are preserved.
  • Define and enforce best practices for data modeling, DAX calculations, Power Query transformations, and visualization standards.
  • Optimize Power BI solutions for performance, usability, and governance, including security and access controls.
  • Provide technical leadership to BI developers; mentor the team in Power BI and modern reporting practices.
  • Develop complex Power BI reports, Dashboards. The resource should be completely hands on. He should be able to write DAX code.
  • Work closely with data engineering teams to ensure robust data pipelines and accurate data sources for reporting.
  • Establish and maintain documentation on migration processes, data models, and report specifications.
  • Act as the primary SME (Subject Matter Expert) for Power BI adoption within the organization.
  • Candidate should have capital markets experience especially in Credit risk, trading
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or related field.
  • 12+ years of experience in Business Intelligence, with hands-on expertise in IBM Cognos and Microsoft Power BI.
  • Proven experience leading BI migration projects from Cognos (or other legacy BI tools) to Power BI.
  • Strong proficiency in Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service, DAX, Power Query, and data modeling techniques.
  • Solid understanding of SQL and relational database concepts.
  • Experience with data governance, security models, and enterprise-scale BI deployments.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to lead and mentor teams, ensuring knowledge transfer and skill development.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Azure Data Platform (Databricks).
  • Familiarity with Agile / DevOps practices for BI development.
  • Knowledge of other BI tools (Tableau, Qlik, etc.) for comparative analysis.
  • Certification in Microsoft Power BI (PL-300, PL-600) or equivalent.
