Job description

Job Title: BI Developer,  Business Solutions

Department: Business Intelligence (Information Technology)

Reports To: Director of Business Intelligence (solid line) | Manager of Applications (dotted line)

FLSA Status: Exempt

Position Summary

The BI Developer – Business Solutions is a mid-level technical role that sits at the intersection of data, applications, and the business. This position serves as a primary point of contact between the BI team and business stakeholders across the organization, translating operational needs into reporting solutions, interactive dashboards, and workflow-driven forms.

The role carries dual accountability, reporting into the BI organization for data and reporting work, with a dotted-line relationship to the Manager of Applications for K2 SmartForms development and workflow delivery. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable in a requirements conversation with an operations director as they are building a form or a dashboard. They take ownership of their work, communicate proactively, and take pride in delivering solutions that people actually use.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting & Dashboard Development

  • Design, build, and maintain Power BI dashboards and reports that meet business requirements and align with certified datasets and BI governance standards
  • Participate in requirements discovery with business stakeholders to define KPIs, data needs, and report structure before development begins
  • Conduct user acceptance reviews and iterate based on feedback prior to publishing
  • Follow established naming conventions, dataset standards, and documentation practices maintained by the BI team
  • Monitor published reports for performance issues or data quality flags and escalate appropriately

K2 SmartForms & Workflow Development

  • Build and maintain K2 SmartForms front ends, including form layout, field logic, workflow routing, and integration with SQL-based data sources
  • Collaborate with the Manager of Applications on project intake, prioritization, and delivery timelines for K2 work
  • Support testing and deployment of form updates, including coordination with end users and IT stakeholders
  • Maintain form documentation and user guides to support adoption and reduce support burden

Business Engagement & Stakeholder Support

  • Serve as a visible, accessible representative of the BI and Applications teams for day-to-day business user needs
  • Facilitate working sessions with department stakeholders to gather requirements, demo work in progress, and validate solutions prior to delivery
  • Identify and surface opportunities to improve existing reports or workflows based on user feedback and usage patterns
  • Support training and onboarding of business users on new tools and published reports
  • Communicate clearly on project status, timelines, and any blockers , both to business users and internally to the BI and Applications teams

Collaboration & Governance

  • Coordinate with BI developers and the Data Analytics team to ensure alignment with certified datasets and data governance standards
  • Flag data discrepancies or inconsistencies encountered during development and work with the appropriate team to resolve
  • Contribute to internal BI documentation, including metric definitions, report inventories, and process guides

Qualifications

Required

  • 3+ years of experience in a BI, reporting, or application development role
  • Proficiency in Power BI including report development, DAX fundamentals, and working with published datasets
  • Hands-on experience building user-facing forms or workflow applications (K2 SmartForms, Power Apps, or similar)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated comfort presenting work to non-technical audiences
  • Proficient in SQL and relational database concepts – to debug the report data sets and have ability to distinguish and maintain database operations from local reporting operations.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities, work independently, and deliver with minimal supervision
  • Organized and detail-oriented; follows established standards and maintains clean documentation

Preferred

  • Direct experience with K2 SmartForms, including form logic and workflow configuration
  • Familiarity with SharePoint, Microsoft 365, or similar enterprise platforms
  • Background in healthcare, senior living, or another regulated industry
