SUMMARY
The Business Intelligence Developer - Power BI designs, develops, and maintains scalable business intelligence solutions and data visualizations. This role focuses on transforming raw data into actionable insights through robust data modeling, DAX calculations, and intuitive dashboard design. The ideal candidate will bridge the gap between complex data infrastructure and business decision-making, leveraging experience with Power BI, SQL Server, and data warehousing concepts. You will collaborate closely with the Data Analytics Manager, data team members and business stakeholders to deliver secure, efficient, and high-impact analytics.
Key Responsibilities and Core Competencies
  • Data Visualization & Design: Design, build, and deploy high-performance dashboards and reports in Power BI that meet business requirements and follow UI/UX best practices.
  • Data Modeling: Build and manage complex data models using Star and Snowflake schemas; implement Tabular modeling and optimize DAX queries for performance.
  • ETL & Integration: Develop and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines using Power Query (M language) and SQL to ingest data from various sources, including APIs, flat files, and SQL databases.
  • Advanced Analytics: Develop and optimize complex SQL queries and stored procedures to support reporting layers and data mart structures.
  • Stakeholder Liaison: Act as a technical liaison with business units to elicit requirements, translate business needs into technical specifications, and define agile delivery plans.
  • Administration: Manage Power BI Service environments, including workspaces, capacities, app publishing, and gateway configurations.
  • Governance & Security: Ensure secure data access by implementing Row-Level Security (RLS) and supporting compliance with HIPAA and internal data governance standards.
  • Documentation: Author and maintain technical documentation for data lineage, metric definitions, and dashboard architecture.

Essential Job Duties
  • Assist the delivery of data into Power BI and Tableau platform for analytics and visualization.
  • Work with data team and organization to prioritize and understand data requests in the scheme of operational tasks using JIRA.
  • Manage workspaces, datasets, and reports within the Power BI service.
  • Implement and manage security settings, data governance policies, and compliance standards.
  • Ensure efficient performance of Power BI reports and dashboards by refining data models and queries. Proactively monitor and tune report performance, optimizing underlying data models and SQL views to reduce load times.
  • Collaborate with the data team on advanced report writing and deep-dive data analytics. Work with the organization to prioritize data requests within the framework of operational tasks and long-term strategy.
  • Manage the end-to-end delivery of data into the Power BI platform, ensuring data accuracy and refresh reliability.
  • Expertly manage workspaces, datasets, and report sharing permissions.
  • Maintain expertise in connecting to diverse data sources including SQL Server, Excel and Epic Clarity/Caboodle.

Education and/or Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field is required; equivalent combination of education, experience, and training may be considered.
  • 5 years of relevant experience in data warehouse development/maintenance is required.
  • Healthcare industry experience is preferred.
  • Advanced SQL Programming is preferred.
  • Proficiency in DAX is required.

License and/or Certification
  • Microsoft Certification: (e.g., PL-300: Microsoft Data Analyst Associate) is highly preferred.
  • EPIC Certification: Electronic Health Record certificate in Clarity or Caboodle is preferred.

  • Technical Stack: Expert knowledge of Power BI Desktop/Service, SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), and SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS).
