What is an Audit RN?

An Audit RN is a Registered Nurse who specializes in reviewing medical records and healthcare documentation to ensure accuracy, compliance, and quality of care. They work with healthcare providers, insurance companies, or auditing firms to verify that billing and coding practices meet regulatory standards. Audit RNs also identify discrepancies, provide education to staff, and help implement improvements to clinical documentation or billing processes. How does an Audit RN typically collaborate with other departments during an audit process?

An Audit RN works closely with departments such as billing, coding, quality assurance, and clinical teams to review medical records for accuracy and compliance.
