Job description

Job Summary:
The Material Coordinator position serves as an advanced press support role, combining feeder operation responsibilities with ownership of pressroom materials and consumable inventory. This position coordinates the planning, staging, storage, and usage of inks, coatings, and other materials; maintains accurate inventory records and stock levels in partnership with Purchasing; supports inventory reporting and issue resolution; and helps drive efficient material flow to ensure uninterrupted press operations.
Responsibilities:
  • Follow guidance and direction from Press Operators and management.
  • Understand and comply with ISO, safety protocols, standards, and written procedures.
  • Follow daily schedule for workload and communicate problems or concerns, assisting in resolutions in a timely manner.
  • Check cutting slip to verify count of stock is accurate prior to running, communicates discrepancies to supervisor.
  • Ensure that make-ready times and materials used are minimized through proper planning of work prior to production runs.
  • Maintain accurate in-depth knowledge of safety requirements for the job and relevant equipment; familiarity with Material Safety Data Sheets regarding chemicals in use.
  • Wear appropriate safety protection when using or mixing chemicals and ensure proper handling and disposal of hazardous chemicals.
  • Maintain a high level of print quality to eliminate inspection delays and redoes.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on press such as lubrication, replacement of small parts, cleaning and minor adjustments.
  • Assist in other departments as needed and when workload permits.
  • Keep work areas clear and organized; maintain housekeeping standards.
  • Review Press schedule to ensure proper planning for utilization of inks and coatings.
  • Coordinate the storage, movement, and planned usage of printing materials.
  • Review consumable inventory on regular cadence. Monthly report to Finance.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records for pressroom consumable materials; coordinating with Purchasing to ensure materials remains at acceptable levels.
  • Investigate and work to resolve inventory discrepancies, shortages, and material transaction errors.
  • Stage ink/blankets for upcoming jobs on the schedule
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to inventory management, material flow, and department organization.
  • Ensure proper stock is staged and used for each job.
  • Perform other duties as requested.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in a manufacturing environment, printing or packaging industry experience, 2 or more years of experience strongly preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to perform repetitive dexterous hand and finger movements.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to read and interpret rulers, scales and other measurement devices.
  • Ability to stoop, climb, bend, crouch, etc. as necessary in the scope of role responsibilities.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand at a workstation for duration of shift.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with or without mechanical assistance.
