Job description

TITLE OF POSITION: Assistant Controller (Full-Time)
REPORTS TO: Controller

The Assistant Controller supports the Controller in managing the companyโ€™s accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, and inventory management. This role focuses heavily on cost accounting, inventory accuracy, and manufacturing financial processes.

RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Assist with accounting functions, forecasting, auditing, budgeting activities, and board meetings.
  • Manages daily, monthly, quarterly, and year-end inventory processes, including cycle counts and annual physical inventory.
  • Analyze manufacturing and purchasing costs to support accuracy and efficiency.
  • Provide financial and inventory updates to internal departments.
  • Perform month- and year-end close activities, including reconciliations, COGS breakouts, and overhead allocations.
  • Help maintain ERP financial settings, including formulas and overhead rates.
  • Prepare, reconcile, and report on plant and vending inventory.
  • Review and close production batches, resolve variances, and troubleshoot ERP inventory issues.
  • Prepare production and inventory reports such as volumes, raw material usage, and yields.
  • Set up new inventory parts, formulas, and integration mapping in the ERP system.
  • Support cost accounting and maintain accurate financial records.
  • Ensure accurate issuance and posting of RMA credits.
  • Assist in budget preparation, including allocation analysis and usage files.
  • Generate monthly reporting including Manufacturing Spending, margins, and inventory reconciliations.
  • Assist Controller with investigations into potential issues or risks.
  • Develop reporting from ERP and TrackAbout systems.
  • Provide documentation and assist with analysis of data for annual financial audits.
  • Support special projects and process improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain serial number controls and resolve related production issues.
  • Perform cost, pricing, overhead, and margin analysis.
  • Maintain and enforce internal controls and financial policies.
  • Supervise purchasing or inventory personnel when applicable.
  • Serve as backup for sales tax, fixed assets, container inventory, and Controller duties including but not limited to backup treasury functions.
  • Participate in training and supporting the finance team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelorโ€™s degree in accounting is required.
  • MBA, CMA, or CPA credential is preferred.
  • 8โ€“10 years of accounting experience in manufacturing required; 3โ€“5 years of management preferred
  • Excel computer spreadsheet mastery (advanced formula usage) and ERP computer systems experience is required.
  • Must exhibit the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of personnel in the organization and demonstrate clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in computer applications including but not limited to Office 365 applications and be proficient at the operation of a 10 key calculator.
  • This is an onsite role requiring the candidate to report to the office daily.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must have sufficient mobility to access all areas of the plant site in support of project work. This will involve climbing/descending ladders and stairways. Must be able to legally operate a motor vehicle to visit equipment and service vendors or customer locations. Required to wear personal protective equipment in the plant environment. This position requires prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
