Job description

A24 is hiring a Localization Manager to work cross functionally across the post production team to help create, source, archive localization assets (including feature subtitles, dubs, localization) for domestic and international releases. This role is based in our Los Angeles office. 

Responsibilities

  • Create English accessibility assets for US Theatrical release and for any US festival needs (English captions, Audio Description) 
    • Process includes coordinating orders with vendors, and QC of final materials
  • Create LAS subtitled DCP for US Theatrical Release 
    • Source existing LAS subs for international distributors, or originating subtitles
    • Wrap DCP for US release package
    • QC / check for language accuracy, clashing of existing English subs, etc. 
  • Assist with localization for A24 International Direct Releases 
    • Manage subtitle/dub timelines for A24 International direct releases 
    • Help QC/watchdown of A24 theatrical direct release localized DCPs 
    • Help create downstream home ent entertainment files
    • Coordinate creation of localized trailer materials for A24 direct releases
  • Create and QC of English home entertainment accessibility files (SDH subs, Audio description nearfield mix)  /
  • Source and conform existing LAS dub material to US longplay home entertainment masters for Pay 1 (HBO) output agreement 
  • Create LAS home entertainment dub when unable to source from existing distribution deals  
  • Assist International Servicing team with Localization needs  
    • Take delivery and archive existing subtitle and dub assets from international distributors following their in-territory releases 
    • Create subtitles not sourceable from distributors for any International company needs including Specialty/PR Screenings  pre-sales releases, etc
    • Assist with subtitle origination and DCP creation for any major A24 International Festival premieres (Berlin, Cannes, Venice)
    • Manage language delivery needs to Airlines partners or authorize creation of materials when subs/dubs are not available
    • Create Film Localization Guides for International distributors that advise on any creative intent in localization 
    • Create localization assets required for any International PayTV library license deals 
    • Assist Sales/PR with special translation projects i.e. translating presentation materials for foreign sales markets/conventions 
  • Awards Season Localization - Coordinate with Awards PR team on any domestic/international subtitling needs for submissions and voter screenings
  • Vetting localization deliverables from production including spotting/dialogue lists, CCSLs, and Narrative Title Lists 
  • Provide M&E Guidance for dubbing needs on films in delivery 
  • Coordinate creation of preliminary CCSL materials as needed on title by title basis. QC for accuracy.  
  • Create captions for International Sales Promo/trailer pieces 
  • Stay ahead of advancements in localization technology and provide strategic recommendations on tools that enhance team capabilities and workflows

Qualifications 

  • 6+ years experience in localization oversight 
  • Fluent Spanish preferred / secondary language fluency in French, Mandarin, German, or Italian a plus
  • Strong global network of localization vendors
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and workflows simultaneously
  • Organizational and project management skills
  • Critical thinking and problem solving around tight deadlines, novel situations, and unconventional workflows
  • Experience with combined continuity and spotting list quality control
  • Experience with theatrical subtitle/dubbing mastering preferred
  • Strong familiarity with Music and Effects dubbing requirements 
  • Intimate knowledge of language QC 
  • Strong eye for creative intent in localization 
  • Familiarity with dubbing/legal restrictions a plus

Our target salary range for this role is between $100,000 to $125,000. We do not use formal job titles internally and similarly named positions may have different compensation levels. Actual starting salary within the range will depend on various considerations, including: work experience, skills, specializations, and training.
