What is an assistant recruiter?

Assistant Recruiters are entry-level professionals who support recruitment teams in sourcing, screening, and coordinating with job candidates. They help manage job postings, schedule interviews, and maintain candidate databases. Their role is essential in ensuring a smooth hiring process by handling administrative tasks and communicating with applicants. Assistant Recruiters often work closely with recruiters and hiring managers to understand job requirements and find suitable candidates.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an assistant recruiter, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Assistant Recruiter, you need strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a foundational understanding of human resources or talent acquisition, often supported by a relevant degree or internship experience. Familiarity with applicant tracking systems (ATS), resume databases, and basic HR software is typically required. Exceptional communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to multitask make candidates stand out in this role. These skills and qualities are crucial for efficiently sourcing candidates, supporting recruiters, and ensuring a smooth hiring process for both applicants and employers.

Job description

Recruiting Assistant

  • Location: Houston, TX (In-Office)
Job Type: Part Time Monday 8:30am-4pm, Tuesday-Friday, 9:00AM-4PM.
    Pay: $15/hr

Join Our Recruiting Team

DC Pines is growing, and we’re looking for a Recruiting Assistant to work directly with our Recruiter and help keep our hiring process organized, responsive, and moving forward.

This is a hands-on support role with a lot of variety. One day you may be reviewing resumes and scheduling interviews; the next you may be researching a career fair, sourcing potential candidates, updating recruiting trackers, or finding a new opportunity to get DC Pines in front of job seekers.

If you’re organized, resourceful, good with people, and love being the person who keeps things moving behind the scenes, this could be a great fit.

What You’ll Do

  • Review incoming resumes and applications for potential candidates
  • Schedule and confirm phone screens and interviews
  • Assist with candidate follow-up and recruiting communications
  • Make outbound calls and provide overflow phone support when needed
  • Source potential candidates through job boards and other recruiting channels
  • Keep candidate records and our Applicant Tracking System organized and up to date
  • Research career fairs, hiring events, colleges, community organizations, and new recruiting opportunities
  • Research publications, workplace awards, partnerships, and other ways to increase our visibility as an employer.
  • Help coordinate recruiting events and hiring initiatives
  • Assist with recruiting materials and employer-branding projects
  • Support new-hire and onboarding preparation
  • Handle recruiting-related administrative tasks and special projects
  • Help our Recruiter wherever an extra set of capable hands is needed

Previous recruiting or HR experience is helpful, but it isn’t required. Experience in administrative support, customer service, scheduling, office coordination, or another fast-paced role can translate well.

About DC Pines

DC Pines is a growing Houston-based roofing and windows company with a people-focused, high-energy culture.

Our recruiting team plays an important role in that growth, and this position will work closely with our Director of Recruiting while getting exposure to nearly every part of the hiring process.

It’s a great opportunity for someone who wants to build experience in recruiting while becoming the organizational backbone behind a busy hiring operation.

Requirements

  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail
  • Friendly, professional, and comfortable on the phone
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to juggle multiple tasks and shifting priorities
  • Comfortable with computers, spreadsheets, and learning new software
  • Resourceful and willing to research something you don’t know
  • Dependable and able to follow through without constant reminders
  • Confident taking initiative while also knowing when to ask questions
  • Comfortable working in a busy, energetic office environment

Benefits

  • 401(k) with Company Match
  • Ongoing Training and Development
  • Career Growth Opportunities
  • Annual company Cancun trip for you and a guest
  • Monthly company events and celebrations
