What is a junior recruiter?

A junior recruiter works in the Human Resources department of a company to assist with the hiring process. As a junior recruiter, you play a significant role in finding the right candidates for job openings. Other duties include posting job openings, screening resumes, contacting candidates, scheduling interviews, and coordinating background and drug tests. Typically reporting to a senior recruiter, you work with both candidates and hiring managers frequently, so you need to have strong interpersonal and organizational skills. You also complete on-the-job training to learn about the company’s specific Human Resources policies. It’s not uncommon for junior recruiters to build relationships with local hiring managers and look for potential candidates through their own research.

What does a junior recruiter do?

A Junior Recruiter assists with the hiring process by sourcing and screening candidates, scheduling interviews, and supporting senior recruiters in various administrative tasks. They often help draft job postings, review resumes, and communicate with applicants. Their role is essential in ensuring a smooth and efficient recruitment process for the organization. Junior Recruiters also learn about company culture and hiring needs to better identify suitable candidates, making this position a great starting point for a career in human resources.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a junior recruiter, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Junior Recruiter, you need a basic understanding of recruitment processes, strong organizational skills, and at least a bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or a related field. Familiarity with applicant tracking systems (ATS), resume databases, and recruiting platforms like LinkedIn is typically required. Excellent interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate clearly help you build strong relationships with candidates and hiring managers. These skills are crucial for efficiently sourcing and placing top talent, ensuring a positive candidate experience, and supporting overall business growth.

What are some common challenges faced by junior recruiters in their first year, and how can they overcome them?

Junior recruiters often face challenges such as balancing a high volume of open positions, quickly learning to screen candidates effectively, and adapting to fast-changing client or hiring manager needs. They may also find it difficult to build strong relationships with both candidates and internal teams. To overcome these challenges, new recruiters should focus on developing strong organizational skills, seek feedback from senior team members, and actively participate in training sessions. Building open communication channels with hiring managers and leveraging mentorship within the recruitment team can also accelerate their learning curve and success.

Job description

Junior Recruiter

Elios AI · Remote (US) · Full Time · Entry-level to early-career · $60K-$70K base + commission

About Elios AI

We solve technology problems with people. Elios AI delivers consulting-grade talent solutions at staff-aug economics, pairing a curated network of AI-native specialists with operators who have actually done the work. Not recruiters reading from a script. Technologists evaluating technologists.

We win on precision, not volume. We present fewer, better candidates because we've done the work upfront. This role is how we keep it that way.

The Role

We're hiring a Junior Recruiter to source, screen, and move specialists through our pipeline. You'll own the candidate experience from first conversation to placement, working alongside technical screeners and client partners who already know what good looks like.

This is a build role for someone early in their career. If you're right out of college or have up to three years of recruiting experience, and you want to learn how technical hiring actually works, this is a seat with real ownership and room to grow.

What You'll Do

  • Source candidates across our curated network and the open market
  • Run first-round screens to assess fit before a technologist gets involved
  • Keep the pipeline clean and current in Elios Insights
  • Coordinate interviews and own scheduling end to end
  • Give every candidate honest feedback, even the ones we pass on
  • Partner with client leads to understand the role behind the req
  • Learn to read a technical job description the way our operators do, and tell the difference between a keyword match and a real fit

What You Bring

  • A sharp communicator who follows through
  • Organized enough to run several searches at once without dropping details
  • Curious enough to ask why a role exists before you start filling it
  • Moves fast without cutting corners
  • Would rather present three strong candidates than fifty mediocre ones
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is a plus

Recruiting experience helps but isn't required. We'll teach you the technical fluency. We can't teach drive, judgment, or the instinct to do right by people.

Why Join

  • Learn technical recruiting from people who've sat on both sides of the hiring table
  • Real ownership early, with direct access to leadership
  • A front-row seat to how a precision-first talent model actually runs
  • A fast-growing team where the people who join now help shape what comes next

The base is $60K to $70K, plus commission that grows with every placement you make. The harder you work, the more you earn, and we'll invest in teaching you the business so you can run with it.
