This role offers an amazing opportunity to learn and grow in a dynamic environment. The Assistant HR Generalist is key to the successful operations of our business. They have responsibility that stretches from behind-the-scenes admin work, team engagement, recruitment, and training. They work closely with the Operator, Talent & Culture Director, Director Team and the Office Admin to ensure the store is running smoothly and that all employees and administrative details and tasks are up to date. The Assistant HR Generalist should exhibit strong decision-making skills, extensive knowledge of California labor laws, strong interpersonal communication skills, high attention to detail/accuracy and the ability to solve problems and resolve team conflicts. Responsibilities

This role is responsible for partnering with the Director of Talent and Culture to:

  • Build and maintain scalable systems that attract, develop, and retain top talent while ensuring operational consistency, legal compliance, and administrative excellence across the organization
  • Ensures that all HR, payroll, benefits, and administrative systems are executed with accuracy, professionalism, and consistency, supporting a high-performing, values-driven culture across all departments
  • Ensure consistency and excellence in the hiring, interview and selection process. Oversee onboarding systems to ensure new Team Members are effectively integrated into the organization
  • Serve as one of the primary resource for employee relations; ensuring fair and consistent resolution of workplace concern
  • Partner with Director team to support and coach leaders in handling performance management, disciplinary actions and team member development conversations. Ensure that evaluation systems are completed by Directors in a timely manner in accordance with our HR Calendar.
Compliance and Legal Oversight:
  • Ensure full compliance with all local, state, and federal labor laws across all locations
  • Maintain and update HR policies, procedures, and the Employee Handbook
  • Oversee proper documentation, recordkeeping, and audit readiness for all HR-related systems
  • Manage Workers’ Compensation, unemployment claims, and related case management processes
  • Maintain job descriptions across all roles/tiers
  • Continuous improve administrative systems to increase efficiency, scalability and consistency.
Payroll Systems & Timekeeping
  • Oversee payroll processes to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timeliness
  • Ensure proper timekeeping practices and compliance with wage and hour laws
  • Administer PTO, sick leave, and other time-off policies in alignment with state regulations and company standards
  • Partner with leadership to resolve payroll discrepancies and improve labor-related processes
  • Ensure compliance with ACA and all benefits-related regulatory requirements
  • Manage open enrollment processes and provide education to Team Members
  • Serve as the primary liaison between employees and benefits providers
HR Systems and Strategy
  • Develop and maintain scalable HR and administrative systems to support growth
  • Analyze HR data and trends to inform decisions related to retention, staffing, and performance
  • Partner with the Operator and Directors of Operations/Talent to align people strategy with business goals
  • Assist with annual Strategy and HR Planning retreat
  • Drive continuous improvement of HR and administrative functions to enhance overall organizational effectiveness
