MAAS Companies

Job description

The Work
LAUSD is building and modernizing schools across the District, and every one of those projects starts long before a shovel hits the ground. As a Project Development Manager, you run that front end: you plan and coordinate the pre-construction work for new school and modernization projects, own the scope, schedule, and budget across multiple projects at once, and carry each one through planning, design, and into construction.
You direct the people who make the development phase move: Assistant Facility Development Managers, Design Managers, and outside design professionals. You resolve the complex planning, design, and construction issues that stall projects, review architect and engineer contract scopes, fees, and payment applications, and manage the overall finances of your projects. You coordinate with utility companies and government agencies to keep approvals on schedule, and you report project status, budget, and issues to District leadership up to Board representatives. Three positions are open.
What You Will Own
  • Pre-construction planning and coordination for new school and modernization projects
  • Scope, schedule, and budget across multiple concurrent projects
  • Direction and performance of Assistant Facility Development Managers, Design Managers, and design professionals
  • Review of architect and engineer contract scope, fees, and payment applications, and overall fiscal management
  • Coordination with utility companies and government agencies to keep approvals moving
  • Project reporting and analysis for District branches and Board representatives

Requirements
What You Bring
  • 10 years of experience managing the planning, design, construction, and coordination of capital projects
  • A bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, or construction management (required for this role)

Preferred
  • Scoping and planning of new construction and modernization projects
  • LEED and/or Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) projects
  • Development of major facilities: CEQA, agency approvals, City and County coordination
  • Public project delivery and procurement methods
  • Community engagement processes and strong written and spoken communication
  • Building Information Modeling (BIM) and formal construction partnering
  • California Architect or Professional Engineer license, CCM, or LEED accreditation

Benefits
Compensation
Salary range: $181,000 to $198,000 per year, based on experience.
Benefits: health, dental, and vision at low cost; 401k; three weeks of PTO; and an ESOP (employee stock ownership) at no cost to you, with a 3% Safe Harbor contribution vested on day one.
Why MAAS
MAAS has spent nearly 40 years earning the trust of 50+ educational institutions across California, managing over $10B in projects. That track record means the work here is stable, funded, and consequential. You are not chasing the next contract.
As a MAAS employee, you are also an owner. The company is 100% employee-owned through an ESOP, a retirement benefit provided at no cost to you, on top of your salary. MAAS is a profitable, well-run organization and our share price has more than doubled since the plan's inception, with continued growth year over year. Your ownership stake builds the longer you stay, and ESOP participants nationally tend to accumulate 2.5x more in retirement savings than employees at non-ESOP companies.
In an industry not known for prioritizing culture, 96% of MAAS employees say it is a great place to work, and 100% say people genuinely care about each other.
