General Summary:
As a member of the Qualcomm Technology Licensing Division (QTL) team, you will be responsible for a variety of matters pertaining to QTL's outbound patent licensing programs and account management covering cellular device activities in Qualcomm's worldwide markets, excluding China. The position will report to the Vice President in charge of these QTL markets and principally involve negotiating and executing complex patent license agreements and amendments covering the manufacture and sale of cellular devices, as well as advising the business on issues related to licensee compliance and enforcement of existing license agreements. This position would serve as the primary account management interface between Qualcomm and its licensees and will involve coordinating and working together with QTL contract lawyers, QTL Finance, QTL patent attorneys, QTL Compliance & Audit, and Qualcomm Corporate Legal.
Key Responsibilities Include
  • Participating in formulating Qualcomm's long-term licensing strategies.
  • Developing and maintaining account strategies and collaborating with functional teams to implement account plans and strategies.
  • Conducting market analysis and working with functional teams to generate potential licensing leads and opportunities.
  • Refining licensing strategies and conducting license negotiations with key licensees.
  • Participating in and contributing to new contract term negotiations, agreement signings and post-signing licensee meetings.
  • Maintaining effective customer relationship with key licensees.
  • Ensuring full compliance of the executed license agreements.
  • Facilitating compliance efforts by working with the QTL Compliance and Audit teams and resolving inter-company issues at the key decision-maker level as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
  • 10+ years' experience in patent licensing, with strong preference for 5 years' experience in a large law firm or comparable in-house setting, with a particular focus on patent licensing transactions and/or patent litigation.

Preferred Qualifications
  • JD or LLM from accredited US law school.
  • Prior experience as in-house counsel, preferably for a technology company.

A Qualified Candidate Will Have
  • Experience with negotiating complex patent portfolio license agreements or litigating complex patent infringement actions.
  • General understanding of IP portfolio development and strategy.
  • Candidate also should possess deep understanding of key patent law concepts (including exhaustion and FRAND licensing requirements, cellular standards essential patents) and be conversant with key recent legal decisions in this area.
  • Comprehensive understanding of intellectual property case law, rules and regulations.
  • Prior experience as in-house counsel, preferably for a technology company.
  • Basic familiarity with cellular communications technology and/or other wireless communications technologies is preferred.
  • Experience with antitrust law and/or SDO IP policy would be helpful.
  • Broad cellular industry insight and commercial acumen including, ability to continuously monitor and report trends in the wireless market, specifically mobile phone/mobile device/IOT market data to help grow QTL business.

Pay range and Other Compensation & Benefits:
$231,100.00 - $346,700.00
The above pay scale reflects the broad, minimum to maximum, pay scale for this job code for the location for which it has been posted. Even more importantly, please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Qualcomm. We also offer a competitive annual discretionary bonus program and opportunity for annual RSU grants (employees on sales-incentive plans are not eligible for our annual bonus).
