Job description

Manager, Development

Oakland, CA
Full-time

Energy is the binding constraint on human progress. Solar and storage are the lowest cost sources of new generation, but the conventional project delivery model has not changed in 30 years and deployment cannot keep pace with demand.

Planted is the execution layer between a parcel of land and a powered facility. We digitize sites, optimize designs, and deploy robots to build the lowest cost and fastest new power systems at the speed of manufacturing.

We're expanding our team of ambitious, curious, and hands-on engineers and operators who want to accelerate that transition. Come take ownership of large parts of our product, company, and business development as we help power the world with 100% clean and abundant energy.

About The Role

We are hiring a Manager, Development to support the day-to-day execution of Planted's commercial efforts. This role works closely with Commercial, Marketing, Solutions Engineering, Project Operations and Business Operations team members to keep core processes running smoothly and to help turn strategy into action.

The ideal candidate is a tenacious growth driver, someone who thrives on engaging new customers, navigating organizations, building relationships and finding the deals that will grow our project pipeline. You are a hands-on professional who balances this external focus with the operational discipline and organization required to scale a fast-moving startup.

This is a hands-on role for someone who is highly organized, adaptable, and comfortable wearing multiple hats in a fast-moving startup environment.

The salary range for this full-time position is $90,000 - $120,000 plus sales incentive plan, stock options and benefits. Pay within the range is based on candidate experience, job-specific skills, education, and work location. The target experience for the position is 3-5+ years.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead Generation & Pipeline Expansion: Proactively engage with current and potential customers-including developers, EPCs, and IPPs-to actively expand our footprint by showing developers how the Planted System transforms their project outcomes
  • Account Mapping: Systematically research and "map" targeted developer partners to understand their internal organizational structure, identify key decision-makers, and build relationships that ensure Planted is the preferred development approach
  • Project Support & Consulting: Provide direction and feedback to partners to help them maximize the value of our solution within their project pipelines, ensuring the Planted system is integrated effectively from the start
  • Quote & Proposal Engineering: Drive the end-to-end preparation of quotes, proposals, and sales documentation, ensuring they clearly articulate the technical and financial value of our system
  • CRM Management: Effectively utilize the CRM via data hygiene, and reporting to ensure the leadership team has accurate visibility into the pipeline
  • Market Intelligence: Solicit and synthesize market, customer, and competitive feedback to provide direction for future sales, marketing, and go-to-market strategies
  • Cross-Functional Execution: Work cross-functionally to keep priorities moving forward, removing friction from day-to-day workflows and supporting the development of processes that build organizational scale
    QUALIFICATIONS
    • 3-5+ years of experience in sales, marketing, operations, or a related field
    • Strong written communication skills and comfort producing clear, professional written materials
    • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and follow-through
    • Analytical mindset with comfort working in Excel or similar tools; interest in modeling, automation, or AI tools is a plus
    • High motor and bias toward action in a startup environment
    • Comfort asserting ideas, asking questions, and constructively challenging assumptions when needed
    • Professional, personable, and able to interact confidently with internal and external stakeholders
    • Based in the SF Bay Area and able to attend in-person events as needed
    • Comfort navigating ambiguity and shifting priorities
      PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
      • Exposure to CRM tools, marketing platforms, or sales enablement systems
      • Interest in renewable energy, climate, or infrastructure businesses

*A note on qualifications: Many people only apply for jobs if they believe they can perform every task in the job description. We are most interested in finding the best candidate for the job and will consider equivalent combinations of knowledge, skills, education, and experience to meet minimum qualifications. If you are interested in applying, we encourage you to think broadly about your background and skill set for the role.

        PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS

        • Mostly desk work using standard office equipment
        • The position requires some travel for customer and business meetings and company-wide meetings
          What We Offer
          • 11 paid company holidays and flexible Paid Time Off (PTO)
          • Company-paid in-office lunches
          • Stock options
          • Medical, vision, dental, and other benefits
          • Pre-tax commuter benefits
          • 401(k)
          • A chance to have an empowered, meaningful, and early role in climate
This will be a great fit if:
          • You want to solve challenging problems
          • You are biased towards action and focus on the vital work that drives the most impact
          • You prioritize the physical and psychological safety of yourself and those around you
          • You are humble, embrace change, and deliver and receive candid feedback
          • You are optimistic about the future and can make tough decisions to help get there
          • You have high expectations and coach, develop, and make time to help others

Planted is an equal opportunity employer committed to growing inclusively, regardless of race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability, medical condition, age, or veteran status. However you identify, or whatever background you bring with you, please apply. We look forward to hearing from you.
