Cross Country - Varsity Assistant Coach
The Scarsdale Public Schools are seeking a dynamic and team-oriented individual who exhibits a love of learning and a genuine interest in the social, emotional, mental, and physical health of student-athletes. Applicants should demonstrate expert content knowledge and success in coaching their respective sport at the high school level. An ideal candidate will understand the benefits of an educational interscholastic athletic experience with a specific focus on player growth development. NYS certification in physical education or coaching license is required.

QUALIFICATIONS:ย 

  • Has the ability to assist inย theย organizationย and supervision of a cross countryย program.
  • Has previous successful coaching experience in cross country.
  • The assistantย coach must have substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sportย and, at the same time, must continue to examine new theories and procedures pertinent toย the field.
  • The assistantย coach must serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes throughย his/her instructions and actions.ย 

REPORTS TO:
The Athletic Director and Varsity Head Cross Countryย Coach.ย 

JOB GOAL:
To instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical trainingย necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. At the sameย time, the coach must instruct and demonstrate behaviors that lead to sociallyย acceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride ofย accomplishment in the student athletes. To upgrade his/her knowledge and skillsย through coaching clinics, observations, consultation, etc.ย

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:ย 

  • Has a thorough knowledge of all the athletic policies approved by the Scarsdale Publicย Schools' Board of Education and helpsย theย implementation by the entire staff of theย sports program.
  • Has knowledge of existing system, state, and league regulations andย implements themย consistently.
  • Assists the Head Coach in the necessary preparation to hold scheduled sport events or practices and adheres toย scheduled facility times.
  • Serves as a mentor to each athlete to promote the development and demonstration in student athletesย the character traits of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.
  • Monitors a student athlete's grades and conduct.
  • Follow procedures concerning injuries, medical attention and emergencies.
  • Aids in the management and use of equipment and instills in each player a respect for equipment and school property.ย
