Job Summary
Forest NJ seeks an Assistant Controller to be primarily responsible for administering and preparing key reports for the monthly close process and financial reporting. The candidate should have knowledge of construction accounting, handle key control functions and working to improve internal and external reporting. In addition, expectation to grasp an overall knowledge of both the business and economic environment to provide analytical support to management and the organization.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Include the following, but other duties may be assigned.
  • Support Controller and CFO in the finance and accounting activities of the Company, including timely issuance of monthly financial statements in accordance with GAAP
  • Assist in managing components of the monthly close process, including review of journal entries, reconciliations, and reporting schedules
  • Own account reconciliation of key accounts, document findings and escalate exceptions
  • Documentation of key processes, in particular working with internal controls and being able to clearly evidence work product
  • Assist with Internal Audit and external requirements and documentation requests
  • Direct banking activity, including preparation and release of approved payment files
  • Monitor, communicate and resolve open accounting issues and all accounting-related operations issues
  • Complete special projects assigned by the Controller and/or CFO
  • Identify opportunities to improve reporting and visibility in workpapers and in system reporting
  • Travel between our New Jersey and NYC offices is required
  • Regular and predictable on-site attendance is an essential function of the job

Qualifications
  • BA/BS in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA or CPA Eligible preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in Construction accounting preferred, or work experience demonstrating accounting and analytical capabilities.
  • Experience with Job costing and WIP reporting
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, in particular a high level of familiarity with Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUPs, XLOOKUPs, Index/Match, Pivot tables, Financial Models)
  • ERP Experience, in particular Vista Viewpoint preferred
  • Strong analytical skills and high attention to detail
  • Ability to work with a team, in particular with Accounting team and Project Operations
  • Must demonstrate commitment to Company values, and comply with all company operating policies, procedures and programs as established
