What is an applicant tracking system (ATS)?

An Applicant Tracking System (ATS) is a software application used by organizations to manage their recruitment and hiring processes. It helps automate tasks such as posting job openings, collecting and organizing resumes, tracking applicants through different stages, and communicating with candidates. ATS platforms are designed to streamline the hiring workflow, improve organization, and ensure compliance with hiring regulations. Many systems also include features like resume parsing, interview scheduling, and analytics to help employers make informed decisions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an applicant tracking system (ATS) specialist?

To thrive as an Applicant Tracking System (ATS) Specialist, you need expertise in recruitment processes, HR best practices, and a solid understanding of data management, typically supported by experience in talent acquisition or human resources. Familiarity with leading ATS platforms (such as Workday, iCIMS, or Greenhouse), HRIS systems, and relevant certifications like SHRM or PHR is important. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication help specialists optimize workflows and collaborate with hiring teams. These abilities ensure efficient talent acquisition, regulatory compliance, and a smooth candidate experience.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working with applicant tracking systems (ATS) in a recruitment team?

Professionals who manage or work with Applicant Tracking Systems often encounter challenges such as ensuring data accuracy, integrating the ATS with other HR software, and maintaining a user-friendly experience for both recruiters and candidates. Additionally, staying updated with evolving compliance standards and optimizing workflows to reduce manual tasks can be demanding. Collaboration with IT and HR teams is crucial for troubleshooting issues and customizing the system to meet the organization's specific recruitment needs.

You will partner with HR, IT, and business stakeholders to configure and optimize HR systems, deliver actionable insights through reporting, and support continuous improvement initiatives. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives at the intersection of HR operations and technology.
Join us in Delivering Goods for the Good of All.
What You'll Do:
  • Serve as a primary point of contact and subject matter resource for HR systems, supporting configuration, functionality, and user experience across HR modules
  • Configure and support key HRIS modules including Core HR, Recruiting, Performance, and Compensation
  • Support and optimize Applicant Tracking System (ATS) functionality, ensuring an efficient and user-friendly recruiting lifecycle
  • Partner closely with Talent Acquisition to enhance ATS processes, workflows, and candidate experience
  • Translate business requirements into scalable system solutions aligned with HR best practices
  • Develop and maintain reports and dashboards (e.g., OTBI, BI Publisher, or equivalent tools) to support HR analytics and decision-making
  • Support system enhancements and projects including requirements gathering, testing (SIT/UAT), and deployment
  • Contribute to the implementation of Oracle Recruiting Cloud, including configuration, testing, and post-go-live support
  • Partner with cross-functional teams (HR, Payroll, Benefits, IT) to troubleshoot issues and support integrations
  • Perform ongoing data audits, system maintenance, and issue resolution to ensure data integrity
  • Create and maintain system documentation, SOPs, and knowledge base content
  • Identify opportunities for automation and continuous improvement within HR processes
  • Support internal and external audit requests with accurate and timely data

What You'll Need
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Human Resources, Business Administration, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience) required.
  • 3-5 years of hands-on experience supporting HR systems, including configuration and administration across modules such as Core HR, Recruiting, Talent Management, and Compensation
  • Prior experience working with an Applicant Tracking System (ATS) required
  • Experience supporting or participating in ATS implementations or system migrations strongly preferred
  • Experience with Oracle HCM Cloud strongly preferred (or similar HRIS platforms such as Workday, SAP SuccessFactors, etc.)
  • Exposure to or involvement in Oracle Recruiting Cloud is a plus
  • Experience with reporting tools (e.g., OTBI, BI Publisher, or other HR reporting tools) and data management processes
  • Working knowledge of HR business processes (e.g., talent management, total rewards, compliance)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate business needs into technical solutions
  • Experience supporting system updates, testing cycles, and change management
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work both independently and collaboratively
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-through

Why This Role Stands Out
  • Broader exposure across multiple HR modules (not just recruiting/core)
  • Opportunity to grow deeper expertise in Oracle HCM Cloud
  • High visibility with HR and business stakeholders
  • Direct impact on employee experience and HR operations
  • You will gain hands-on experience supporting a full-cycle implementation of Oracle Recruiting Cloud (ORC), including exposure to configuration, testing, and go-live activities
