Job description

Position Summary
The Amazon Buyer is responsible for managing all purchasing activities, inventory planning, and order allocation for Athletic Annex's Amazon business. This role owns the end-to-end purchasing process, from forecasting demand and placing orders with brand partners to allocating inventory between our warehouse and Amazon fulfillment centers. The Amazon Buyer ensures optimal stock levels, minimizes stockouts and overstock situations, and maintains accurate purchase order data within Finale and other company systems. This position reports directly to the Chief Merchandise Officer and is based full-time at our Indianapolis office.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Amazon Buyer will manage inventory planning and forecasting for the Amazon channel, analyzing sales trends, seasonality, and historical data to project future demand. They will place purchase orders directly with brand partners, negotiate timing and quantities as needed, and track orders through to receipt. Order revisions, including changes to quantities, delivery dates, and SKU adjustments, fall under this role's ownership.Inventory allocation is a core function: the buyer will determine appropriate quantities to ship from Athletic Annex's warehouse to Amazon fulfillment centers based on velocity, storage limitations, and replenishment needs. They will enter and maintain all purchase orders within Finale, our inventory management system, ensuring data accuracy across purchasing, receiving, warehouse pick lists, and accounting functions. The buyer will also monitor inventory health metrics on Amazon Seller Central, including IPI score, excess inventory, and stranded inventory.
Cross-functional collaboration is essential. The buyer will work closely with the warehouse team on receiving and shipping, the e-commerce team on listings and promotions, and brand representatives on product availability, new releases, and special buys. They will report regularly to the CMO on purchasing performance, inventory turn, and sell-through.
Required Qualifications
Candidates should have two or more years of buying, inventory planning, or purchasing experience, preferably in e-commerce or retail. Direct experience with Amazon Seller Central or Vendor Central is strongly preferred. Proficiency in Excel, including pivot tables, lookup functions, and basic forecasting formulas, is required. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities are essential. Candidates must be able to work on-site full-time at our Indianapolis office.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Finale Inventory or similar inventory management software is a plus. Experience in the athletic, footwear, or apparel industry is also preferred, as is familiarity with FBA shipment creation and Amazon's restock recommendations.
