Overview

The Nest is seeking a sharp, driven, and highly organized Kitchen Manager to take ownership of our back-of-house operations in Williamsburg. In this role, you aren’t just watching the line—you are running the business of the kitchen. You will be directly responsible for maintaining food cost targets, supervising inventory, and leading a high-performing team to deliver perfect consistency. What You’ll Do
  • BOH Operations: Fully manage daily back-of-house operations, food preparation, and line execution during lunch and dinner services (Operating hours: 11:00 AM – 9:30 PM).
  • Financial & Inventory Control: Oversee ordering, vendor relationships, and inventory tracking. Implement portion controls and waste-reduction strategies to meet food cost goals.
  • Team Leadership & Training: Recruit, train, and schedule kitchen staff. Hold the team accountable to performance standards and foster a positive, high-energy work culture.
  • Culinary Excellence: Serve as the ultimate gatekeeper for quality control, ensuring every dish perfectly matches The Nest’s recipes, presentation, and speed-of-service metrics.
  • DOHMH Compliance: Maintain strict adherence to NYC health department regulations. Ensure the kitchen passes any inspection with flying colors through rigorous daily food safety audits.
  • Facilities & Maintenance: Ensure all kitchen equipment is clean, calibrated, and properly maintained; troubleshoot operational issues proactively.
What We’re Looking For
  • Experience: 2+ years of leadership experience in a high-volume fast-casual or polished-casual kitchen (e.g., Lead Line Cook, Shift Lead, or Assistant KM).
  • Credentials: NYC Food Protection Certificate is required.
  • Business Acumen: Solid understanding of kitchen math, inventory systems, FIFO, and controlling food/labor costs.
  • Leadership Style: A proactive communicator who leads by example on the line and stays cool under peak-hour pressure.
  • Availability: Full-time open availability, including weekends and closing shifts.
  • Physical: Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
