Role Description

The Air Freight Director will oversee all aspects of international air freight operations while playing a key role in expanding our customer base. This position is ideal for a motivated professional with a strong operational background who also enjoys developing new business, managing customer relationships, and identifying growth opportunities.


Key Responsibilities

Air Freight Operations

  • Manage import and export air freight shipments from booking through final delivery.
  • Coordinate with airlines, overseas agents, customs brokers, trucking companies, and customers.
  • Ensure compliance with TSA, CBP, IATA, and all applicable international regulations.
  • Monitor shipment status and proactively resolve service issues.
  • Negotiate rates with airlines and vendors to maximize profitability.
  • Maintain accurate shipment documentation and operating procedures.
  • Lead and improve operational efficiency, service quality, and customer satisfaction.


Business Development

  • Develop new air freight business through prospecting, networking, referrals, and customer visits.
  • Maintain and grow relationships with existing customers.
  • Prepare competitive quotations and negotiate pricing.
  • Collaborate with company leadership to achieve revenue and profitability goals.
  • Identify opportunities to cross-sell ocean freight, customs brokerage, warehousing, and other logistics services.
  • Represent the company professionally at customer meetings and industry events.


Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in international air freight forwarding.
  • Proven knowledge of import and export air freight operations.
  • Demonstrated success in freight forwarding sales or business development.
  • Existing network of customers and industry contacts is highly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of airline routing, pricing, and cargo documentation.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with freight forwarding software and Microsoft Office.
  • IATA Dangerous Goods certification is a plus.
