What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in the field of aging services or gerontology?

Professionals working in aging services or gerontology often encounter challenges such as addressing the complex health and social needs of older adults, managing limited resources, and supporting families through difficult transitions. They may also navigate regulatory requirements and work within interdisciplinary teams to provide holistic care. Building trust with clients and advocating for their well-being, while keeping up with evolving best practices, can be both rewarding and demanding aspects of the role.

Compassion, patience, and strong interpersonal skills set outstanding professionals apart when supporting older adults and their families. These skills and qualifications are crucial for delivering effective care, advocacy, and resource coordination for the aging population.

An aging specialist, also known as a gerontologist or aging services professional, is someone who works with older adults to address their physical, emotional, and social needs. They may provide support in areas such as healthcare planning, social engagement, and daily living activities. Aging specialists can work in a variety of settings, including hospitals, nursing homes, senior centers, and community agencies. Their goal is to help older adults maintain a high quality of life and independence as they age.

Benefis is one of Montana's largest and premier health systems, and we are committed to providing excellent care for all, healing body, mind, and spirit. At Benefis, we work hard to support our employees in every aspect of their careers by offering outstanding benefits and compensation, state-of-the-art facilities, and multiple growth opportunities. The only thing missing is you!
Benefis Health System is launching an innovative Healthy Aging Facility designed to transform how we approach longevity, cognitive health, and lifestyle-driven care. We are seeking a Psychologist to join a foundational, interdisciplinary team in a rare opportunity to help shape a forward-thinking model that blends behavioral health, preventive care, and whole-person medicine to support patients across the aging spectrum. As a core team member, you will play a critical role in delivering interdisciplinary assessments and developing personalized, behaviorally focused care plans. You will work with a diverse patient population-from individuals proactively focused on longevity and wellness, to those at risk for chronic conditions, to patients experiencing cognitive decline or dementia. This role is ideal for a psychologist who is energized by innovation, program development, team-based care, and meaningful patient impact.
What You'll Do
  • Conduct comprehensive psychological and behavioral assessments as part of a team-based evaluation model
  • Develop and implement behavioral modification strategies to support healthy lifestyle change
  • Provide a mix of individual follow-up care and group-based interventions
  • Collaborate closely with an interdisciplinary team including:
    • Geriatric Medicine
    • Functional Medicine
    • Nutrition/Dietetics
    • Pharmacy

    • Midlife patients seeking risk reduction and health optimization
    • Patients with cognitive impairment, including dementia

Who You Are
  • Doctoral-level Psychologist (PhD or PsyD), licensed or license-eligible in Montana
  • Background in clinical, health, or geriatric psychology (all considered)
  • Passion for behavioral health as a driver of long-term physical health outcomes
  • Interest in lifestyle medicine, prevention, and healthy aging
  • Collaborative mindset with enthusiasm for team-based care
  • Excited by the opportunity to help build something new and impactful

Why This Role is Unique
  • Join a core founding team to be part of a groundbreaking model of healthy aging and longevity care
  • Work in a truly interdisciplinary environment, not siloed care
  • Blend preventive care, cognitive health, and behavioral medicine
  • Make a meaningful impact across the full continuum of aging

Why we stand out
  • Stand alone, financially stable, not-for-profit health system led by a CEO with a 20+ year tenure
  • Over 440 employed providers on medical staff

  • Nationally competitive compensation structures with guaranteed salaries + productivity and performance bonuses
  • 8 weeks paid time off (6 PTO, 2 CME)

  • 5-7% retirement match + 457b program
  • Paid malpractice + tail
  • Physician and Advanced Practice Provider wellness programs focused on personal and professional development
  • Monthly meetings with highest-level physician and administrative leadership to bring ideas forward and solve issues
