Job description

LHH is seeking a highly motivated and hands-on Accounting Manager to lead the day-to-day accounting operations of a growing environmental engineering and consulting organization. This role requires a strong blend of technical accounting expertise, project accounting knowledge, and strategic business partnership. The Accounting Manager will oversee the full accounting cycle, ensure accurate financial reporting, manage Work-in-Progress (WIP) and project accounting processes, and support company leadership with financial analysis and operational insights. The ideal candidate will thrive in a project-based professional services environment, possess deep knowledge of accrual accounting, and have experience utilizing Deltek ERP software. This individual will be both a player and coach-actively involved in daily accounting activities while helping drive process improvements, financial controls, and scalable growth initiatives. This position is hybrid with flexibility to set your own schedule within a great culture!
Responsibilities:
  • Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process.
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Ensure proper accrual accounting treatment of revenues, expenses, and project costs.
  • Review and analyze balance sheet reconciliations and general ledger activity.
  • Monitor project setup, cost tracking, labor allocations, and revenue recognition.
  • Manage Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules and project profitability analyses.
  • Review project billing, percent-complete calculations, and unbilled revenue balances.
  • Partner with Project Managers to improve project performance, billing accuracy, and cash flow.
  • Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting, fixed assets, and general ledger functions.
  • Ensure timely invoicing, collections, and cash management activities.
  • Develop and maintain internal accounting controls and financial procedures.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting
  • 5-10 years of progressive accounting experience
  • Strong understanding of revenue recognition and WIP accounting
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and accrual accounting principles.
  • Experience managing project accounting and Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting.
  • Advanced Excel and financial reporting skills.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in Deltek Ajera or comparable ERP system
