Job description

Position Description:
 
  • Work with the Operations Department and customers to plan and coordinate engineering and manufacturing of customer specified product.
  • Utilize engineering skills to work with customers on value analysis/value engineering initiatives (VAVE) such as cost effective material type based on application, proper tolerances stated in engineering drawings, manufacturing process initial layout for product, logistics, procurement, and labor.
  • Interface with the internal operations team and the customer to determine product objective. Review technical aspects of customer prints and determine if a manufacturing fit for company.
  • Confer with operations and manufacturing staff on fabrication process and fixture design.
  • Review raw material specs and outside service requirements necessary to fabricate product to print.
  • Support Manufacturing engineering and Quality departments in all technical activities related to customer compliance.
  • Support manufacturing engineering to identify opportunities or implement changes to improve manufacturing processes or products or to reduce costs, using knowledge of fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment, assembly methods, quality control standards, or product design, materials and parts.
  • Assist operations team on recovery plans, audits, and contractual situations, based on overall capabilities of the company.
  • Review and assist on any EHS regulations form required by customers.
  • Inquiry and development of cost savings projects to improve profitability based on current market conditions and customer performance.
  • Work with Customer Service to ensure smooth running of accounts.
  • Address day to day roadblocks in search of resolution, i.e. missing information for shipping or invoicing, past due invoices, general engineering questions.
  • Support for Customer´s escalating situations such as on-time delivery performance, quality performance, price changes, or contract obligations.
  • Internal support to gather information requested by customer: back up plans, order confirmation, raw material confirmation, production updates/capabilities.
  • Review and complete any format for any topic required by customer.
  • Assist during customers visits and/or audits.
  • Keep appropriate people apprised of the activities and trends of current customers and improve responsiveness.
  • Gather information to build and present business cases that will align with customers’ expectations and company’s commercial strategy.
  • Assist Estimating Department in quoting.
  • Determine and explain customer expectations by gathering information, filtering and communicating internally within Company to review/analyze it to align SI resources accordingly.
  • Work with customers on alternative fabrication methods by assessing any inquiries customer may have related to their product and suggest options to improve any metric customer wants to modify cost, quality, performance.
  • Provide feedback on quotes obtained from customers.
  • Align customers’ parameters/needs with SI capabilities with suppliers’ capabilities for purchase and sale orders.
  • Assist with development and maintenance of current accounts to ensure customer satisfaction and profitability for the company.
  • Prospect potential new customers.
  • Assist estimating group with evaluating high-cost processes in order to improve to a lean/cost effective process. 

Travel up to 50% primarily within the U.S and up to 5% time internationally to visit current Standard Iron Manufacturing facilities and prospective customers to discuss current or potential projects. 
Position is based out of and reports to the company’s offices in Grand Island, NE, but allows for the option to telecommute from a home office within a 60-mile commuting distance from Grand Island, NE.   
Requirements:
At least a Bachelor’s or foreign equivalent degree in Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial and Systems Engineering and Management, or a related engineering discipline and 5 years of progressive post baccalaureate experience as a sales engineer or a similar sales and engineering occupation.
Must possess 5 years of experience with:
-Manufacturing engineering related to contract manufacturing processes
-Liaising between customers and production
-Read and interpret various types of customers blueprints and engineering standards including US/European: Engineering, paint, manufacturing, metals, materials, from a broad range of markets (Automotive, HVAC, Consumer, Construction, Agriculture, Mining, Power Generation)
-Engaging in design, analysis, and project management and assisting customers during prospecting and quoting stages manufacturing processes
-Engaging in documented relationship building, partnership development and customer development related to existing and potential new business opportunities
-Driving revenue growth by finding new markets and customers and strategic planning
-Reading and analyzing customer legal documentation including long-term agreements and contracts-Forecasting and planning
-Market research, information, and Reporting Analysis
-Cost Analysis
Must possess 3 years of experience with:
-Driving market strategy to achieve projected sales
-Regulatory Compliance
