What Is a School Nurse Summer and How to Become One

What Are Jobs for a School Nurse in the Summer?

School nurses can find jobs during the summer break at summer camps and summer school programs. Summer camp nurses typically perform the same job duties as regular school nurses, including administering first aid, treating illnesses and injuries, and dispensing medications in day camps or residential camps. Some school districts offer summer sessions for school nurses, where you have school nurse job responsibilities during the summer school session. Other options include working temporary positions in a hospital or clinical setting during the summer months.

How to Get a Job as a School Nurse in the Summer

The qualifications for summer school nurse jobs are typically the same as those for regular school nurses. This includes completing a bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program and passing the NCLEX (National Council Licensure Examination) exam to obtain a nursing license. Many states have additional requirements for school nurses, which may include obtaining a master's in nursing or education. Summer school nursing positions are typically offered by the school district to their regularly employed school nurses. However, summer positions may be available in districts or schools where the regular nurse declines the summer position.
