What Is a Remote EEG and How to Become One

What Is a Remote EEG Job?

A remote electroencephalogram technician, or remote EEG tech, performs EEG tests in the home of a patient rather than in a hospital or clinic setting. The EEG machine measures brain activity, and physicians use this device for diagnosing conditions such as a brain tumor, stroke, brain trauma, or sleep disorders. Your responsibilities as a remote EEG operator involve traveling to the patient’s location and performing equipment setup. Your duties include attaching electrodes to the patient’s head and monitoring readings for approximately 60 minutes. You may take video of the patient and ask them to perform specific movements during the procedure.

What Are the Qualifications to Get a Remote EEG Job?

The qualifications that you need to get a remote EEG job include education and certification through the American Board of Registration for Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET), the organization responsible for credentialing technicians who operate neurodiagnostic equipment. You can obtain an associate degree in electroneurodiagnostic technology or a closely related subject that includes instruction in EEG operation. Since this job requires travel, you need a valid driver's license and the physical skills to lift equipment and position patients for the scan.
