What Is a Bistro Attendant and How to Become One

What Is a Bistro Attendant?

As a bistro attendant, you typically work in the hospitality sector and serve guests at a hotel bistro or similar company. Your job duties include taking and processing food orders, cleaning and stocking equipment, and setting up supplies and tools during opening and closing. A bistro attendant is an entry-level position that can help you gain experience and improve your career prospects in the service industry. There are usually minimal qualifications to become a bistro attendant. However, you need excellent customer service, time management, and multi-tasking skills, as well as the ability to learn how to use restaurant equipment.

How to Become a Bistro Attendant

The first step to getting a job as a Bistro Attendant is to get your high school diploma or equivalent. Most employers will want to see experience in hospitality, liquor, wine, or food service, but some are willing to train candidates with strong communication skills and a friendly personality. Some employers will require certifications, like a TIPS or CARE certification, though they may give you time to get certified within a certain period of time after you start on the job (i.e., within six months after start). In addition to outstanding customer service skills, being a Bistro Attendant requires basic computer skills, being comfortable multi-tasking in a high-pressure environment, being a good listener, and staying composed under pressure.
