Project Manager Project Manager (General Contracting)
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager with a strong general contracting background to lead and deliver commercial construction projects across healthcare, retail, data center, and university sectors. The role is responsible for managing project scope, schedule, budget, quality, and safety while coordinating with owners, design teams, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders to ensure successful project execution and client satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage all phases of construction projects from preconstruction through closeout, ensuring on-time and on-budget delivery.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and forecasts; monitor progress and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Coordinate and manage subcontractor selection, contracts, performance, and scope changes; enforce contract terms and project quality standards.
  • Serve as primary client contact; build and maintain strong relationships with owners, architects, engineers, and consultants to align expectations and resolve issues.
  • Oversee on-site construction activities, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, project plans, specifications, and applicable codes.
  • Conduct regular site visits, progress meetings, and reporting; prepare and present project status updates to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Manage procurement of materials and long-lead items; review shop drawings, submittals, and RFIs to maintain schedule and quality control.
  • Identify, document, and mitigate project risks; lead change order negotiations and manage claims to protect company interests.
  • Mentor and coordinate project teams, including assistant project managers, field superintendents, and administrative staff to promote effective collaboration and productivity.
Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related field preferred; equivalent experience in general contracting accepted.
  • Minimum 5-8 years of project management experience in commercial construction with a general contracting firm; experience across healthcare, retail, data centers, and university projects strongly preferred.
  • Proven knowledge of construction means and methods, building codes, quality control, scheduling, estimating, and project controls.
  • Strong contract administration skills and experience managing subcontractors, purchase orders, change orders, and project documentation.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and client-facing skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with construction management software (Procore, PlanGrid, Sage, MS Project, or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing project budgets, cost tracking, and forecasting.
  • Relevant certifications (PMP, CCM, or similar) and OSHA safety training preferred; valid drivers license and ability to travel to project sites as required.
