Job description

Definition The City of Columbus, Department of Neighborhoods is seeking a dynamic, community-minded professional to lead the My Brother's Keeper (MBK) initiative, a program dedicated to dismantling disparities and elevating life outcomes for boys and young men of color. Serving as the vital bridge between youth, community stakeholders, and national MBK partners, this position will drive strategy, manage grant distribution, track budgets, and evaluate program impact to ensure lasting success. The ideal candidate blends high-level organizational skills with a passion for youth development, bringing experience in human services programming, data-driven evaluation, and exceptional communication to turn vision into measurable community action.

Under general direction, this position is responsible for coordinating the planning, development, and implementation of programs for the departments of Development or Neighborhoods; performs related duties as required. Examples of Work (Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all of the duties that may be performed.) Supervises assigned staff to include signing performance evaluations, approving/denying leave requests, and recommending discipline; Establishes program objectives by analyzing the program proposal and collaborating with management; Develops program plans by determining the time frame, funding, and staffing required to implement; Recommends and implements policies supporting trade and development programs, goals, and objectives of the department; Develops and recommends strategies for the implementation of new programs, projects, or policies; participates in the implementation and/or training processes relating to programs, projects, or policies; Leads or conducts administrative reviews, program evaluations, and special studies pertaining to various issues; Seeks to identify emerging issues while working proactively to improve the quality of life for City neighborhoods; Coordinates the exchange of information via various outlets and other communications among residents, neighborhood organizations, area commissions, and City staff; Leads major policy and management projects, productivity studies, and operation and legislative reviews; Confers with federal officials to negotiate contracts for financial assistance, including the preparation of work programs; Represents the director or administrator in meetings with City Council, Federal, and State authorities, businesses, and civic groups in order to explain plans and policies; Coordinates extensive research work into the policies and progress of trade and development programs in other cities; Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and reviewing professional publications; Keeps the director or administrator informed, in a timely manner, of any situations that will impact the goals and objectives of a program. Minimum Qualifications Possession of a bachelor's degree and two (2) years of managerial experience in city or regional planning, community or economic development, code enforcement, social, or human services, public or business administration, or closely related field

Substitution(s): A master's degree in city or regional planning, business administration, public administration, or closely related field may be substituted for one (1) year of experience.
