UPPER ARLINGTON CITY SCHOOLS 
JOB DESCRIPTION
Position:                      Assistant Director of Student Life


Location:                     High School
Reports to:                  Principal
Employment Status:  Regular/Full-time 
FLSA Status:              Exempt 


Salary:                        Level II; 260 Days; Administrative Salary Schedule, Commensurate with Experience

Description:  Assist in leading Student Life for Upper Arlington High School grades nine through twelve (9-12). Work collaboratively with the administration, staff, students, and community to promote a sense of belonging and growth among students through Student Life at Upper Arlington High School.

NOTE: The lists below are not ranked in order of importance

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher and relevant experience
  • License and training in first aid, sports management, and possession of a current State of Ohio Pupil Activity Permit
  • Ability to be licensed to operate a school van and provide athlete transportation
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledgeable in the guidelines and requirements of the Ohio High School Athletic Association and other organizations that guide and direct student life programming
  • Ability to work effectively with others
  • Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Effective, active listening
  • Organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of the following: maintenance of facilities, vehicles, outdoor fields, and familiarity with necessary construction projects

Essential Functions:

  • Ensure the safety of students
  • Assists the Director of Student Life in leading and directing all Upper Arlington High School Student Life activities in grades nine through twelve (9-12)
  • Assists in the scheduling of all student life events
  • Assist the director in contracting of sporting officials and other support staff for student life activities
  • Assist the director in monitoring student eligibility for programming, including the OHSAA Bylaws
  • Assist the director in providing oversight for all workers at all student life activities
  • Assist the director in maintaining current inventories of all equipment and supplies on hand
  • Assist the director in the evaluation of coaches, advisors, and fitness center employees engaged in student life activities
  • Assist the director in providing direct assistance and recommendations to building principals and the Associate Superintendent of Human Resources and Operations in screening, interviewing, hiring, and renewing coaches
  • Assist the director in the coordination and provide assistance to head coaches/advisors in training and evaluating student life personnel
  • Assist the director in the coordination of  timers, scorekeepers, ticket personnel, and administrative personnel involved in the total operation of all student life activities
  • Assist the director in ensuring all spectator facilities are ready for all activities
  • Assist the director with the issuance of purchase orders on approved purchase requisitions
  • Assist with the organization and supervision of all student life activity award events
  • Attend staff, league, and local council meetings and in-services as required
  • Devise, implement, and engage in student life program fund-raising activities
  • Implement and enforce student athletic and extra-curricular program rules, regulations, and policies, including any needed hearings relative to eligibility or athletic code of conduct
  • Ensures Student Life Programs are in compliance with applicable Board of Education policies, rules, and regulations; Ohio High School Athletic Association rules and regulations; and Ohio Capital Conference League policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Prepares and administers team budgets at the high school, prepare written reports when required
  • Interact with the public in an official capacity regarding the student life program
  • Coordinate, administer, and maintain files of game contracts with student life personnel
  • Procure concession services and schedule the use of gymnasium and other outside student life facilities for events
  • Assist the director with coordination and ensuring photographic coverage of student life events
  • Assist the director with the distribution of passes for student life events for authorized individuals
  • Assist the director with coordinating activities in conjunction with the booster clubs and parent groups
  • Maintain respect at all times for confidential information, e.g., student files
  • Interact in a positive manner with staff, students, and parents
  • Maintain membership in relevant professional associations, attend meetings, and in-services as required
  • Maintain website management

  • Occasional requirement to travel, both daily and overnight
  • Frequent weekend/evening/summer work

  • Occasionally lift, carry, push, and pull various items up to a maximum of 50 pounds, e.g., paper boxes, deliveries of supplies and equipment
  • Frequently move and position oneself as necessary to access and operate equipment;
  • Frequently move around the workspace and travel throughout the school building;
