Maintenance Director in Training – Skilled Nursing Facility

Location: Northern California
Schedule: Full-Time
Department: Maintenance & Environmental Services

About Us

We are a dedicated skilled nursing and long-term care organization committed to providing high-quality resident care in a safe, well-maintained environment. We are seeking a motivated Maintenance Director in Training (MDIT) to join our team and develop into a future leader within our Environmental Services Department.

Position Summary

The Maintenance Director in Training will work under the guidance of the Environmental Director, Regional Operations Director, and onsite leadership to learn all aspects of managing a facility’s maintenance operations. This hands-on training role provides the knowledge and experience needed to oversee building systems, safety compliance, preventive maintenance, life-safety programs, and team management within a skilled nursing facility.

Key Responsibilities
  • Learn and support daily maintenance operations, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and general building repairs.

  • Assist in managing preventive maintenance schedules, work orders, and vendor coordination.

  • Support life-safety and regulatory compliance, including fire systems, emergency preparedness, and state/federal requirements.

  • Participate in facility rounds and inspections to ensure a safe and well-maintained environment.

  • Shadow and learn from current Maintenance Directors and Regional Directors.

  • Assist with capital project planning and equipment installation/repair.

  • Learn to manage housekeeping and laundry departments when applicable.

  • Provide excellent customer service to residents, staff, and families.

Qualifications
  • Prior experience in maintenance, facilities, construction, skilled trades, or a related field required.

  • Experience in healthcare, hospitality, or skilled nursing is a plus.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn complex building systems.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks, troubleshoot issues, and work independently.

  • Basic computer skills (email, work order systems, documentation).

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

  • Must be able to lift, bend, work with tools, and be on your feet for extended periods.

  • Valid driver’s license required; ability to travel for training as needed.
