Community Outreach Specialist Position Overview
The goal of the Community Outreach Specialist (COS) is to increase awareness and education of clinical research in the community by conducting outreach and engagement initiatives. In addition, the COS will actively engage in discussions with target communities, referral providers and local businesses of interest to support the outreach and engagement growth strategy. Under the direction of marketing and community engagement leadership, the COS will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of all community outreach, education and engagement activities related to a variety of clinical research trials. The COS will foster positive working relationships with community and referral network partners with the goal of developing community relationships and generating study leads.
Responsibilities
•Works with marketing and community engagement team to make recommendations in the community to generate leads for active research studies.
•Plans, coordinates logistics and participates in events such as health fairs, educational programs, lunch and learns and other community activities.
•Communicates with marketing, recruiting and clinic management about all activities and leads generated for prescreen and screening appointments.
•Assists with developing various marketing and communication tools for prospective patient and community partner engagement, while adhering to corporate branding and marketing guidelines.
•Stays current on clinical research referral network best practices by attending continuing education classes, conferences, seminars, and team meetings.
•Travels to outreach locations and adheres to business travel guidelines.
Requirements/Skills
•Experience in community outreach, engagement and/or related experience of influencing others with demonstrated success in complex project management.
•An understanding of clinical trials, healthcare, or a related industry.
•Excellent verbal, listening and written skills.
•Maintains a high degree of professionalism and business acumen.
•Possesses a high degree of initiative and self-motivation with the ability to work under minimal supervision. •Excellent home internet connection and ability to use virtual communication tools.
Education/Work Experience
- Bachelor's degree in science or a health-related field and 1 year of health-related or research experience OR
- Associate’s degree in an allied health profession and 3 years of health-related or research experience
- Combinations of related education and experience may be considered
Work Conditions
The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts.
