Briefly describe the position responsibilities: The position of Staff Accountant is responsible for general ledger account reconciliations. Assists in preparing monthly financial statement analysis and reporting. Responsible for setting up, tracking and accounting for fixed assets and capital projects. Assume backup rolls in areas that may include: Inventory, Cash, Royalty Reporting, and other accounting functions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.

  • Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare entries to general ledger accounts, documenting business transactions
  • Reconciles Balance sheet accounts including Accounts Receivable, Allowance for Bad Debt, Allowance for Returns, Advances, Accounts Payable, Commissions/Royalties Payable, Accrued Expenses, Sales/Use & Payroll Tax Payable, and Deferred Rent
  • Maintains up to date records for fixed assets, which include monthly journal entries combined with proper identification methods
  • Responsible for collecting appropriate data and the preparation of state and local sales tax returns, other tax returns related to products being manufactured or sold (Bedding, Upholstered Furniture, and Stuffed Toys tax)
  • Compiles, review, and submits annually, the necessary property tax information for various government entities
  • Creates management fee invoices and codes debit memos for international subsidiary
  • Reconciles and maintains general ledger of subsidiaries and assists with consolidation of all companies financials
  • Provides trend analysis of monthly balance sheet and income statement as directed by the Controller
  • Reviews, investigates, and corrects errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports
  • Performs statistical analyses to determine trends, estimates, and significant changes, and writes narrative reports explaining findings
  • Prepares accounting information for auditors in an organized format
  • Reviews and audits Accounts Payable work for accuracy
  • Assists in maintaining system for general accounting
  • Identifies trends, risks, opportunities, and recommending corrective action when risks are identified
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year College or university
  • Two to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Language Ability:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.

Math Ability:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to apply generally accepted accounting principles to business transactions and reconcile sets of data to each other.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word Processing, Incorta Reporting, Internet software, Order processing systems and Contact Management systems, basic database knowledge.
